Can anyone help?

Does anyone know of a free or 'free' programme which lets me convert mpeg files etc so they're ready to burn to DVD? I've searched goodle and it's all free trials which only convert 70 percent and everything's riddled with viruses on LimeWire. 'Rare' live material for whoever helps!

Major Geeks.com just might have something that would work for you.
I've gotten a lot of good things from them.

You're welcome. The DC++ thing might be a bad file. Try to download it from a different site.

Are they MPEG1 or MPEG2? If they're MPEG1, they'll have to be converted to MPEG2 to be added to a DVD. However, every time you convert a file from one format to another, you lose a little quality. So if they are MPEG1, I'd suggest you just make VCDs rather than DVDs.

There's a free utility called G-Spot which will tell you what kind of encoding each file has. You can download it here.

Oh... If they are already MPEG2, the only program I know of which will order your files into a DVD-compliant file system (without re-encoding) is TMPGENC DVD Author.

The trial version puts a logo onto any title-screen you make - but then you don't necessarily need a title screen. It's unbelievably easy to use.

It isn't free but you'll get a 14 day trial-period.

Also - don't mix NTSC files with PAL files on the same DVD.
