you have some great ones ... i actually was just thinking about selling or gettin rid of my collection (most of em )

i collected in the 85-90 period mostly i think .... you mentioned some comics there that i remember (but do not own ...) .... i think the one that jumps out for me is Am Spiderman 300 (but that is not anywhere like what u have there ) ... some of the X-men ... i think i have like 160-320 or somethin .... and then some older fantastic four (which arent worth much as collector items tho (not talkin number one or anything !!! )... i really like comics but i dont have the time for them .... when i do think of selling them - then i realize how many people get them "graded" and i think --- hey i should do that (they are bagged and boxed now ) ... but then ... i see someone who has soooo many more collector types like u mention --- and i just let them sit !!! wink

I sold my comic book collection in 1986 for a pitiful amount, so I could buy more Prince records.

i salvaged a bunch of my old comics over the summer, though i don't know that i have anything great. i have the first issue of amazing spiderman where he has the black costume, and i have alpha flight #1 autographed by john byrne, and i have the john byrne superman #1 and a bunch of sienkiewicz new mutants issues...stuff that probably isn't valuable but that i really liked as a kid. shrug

I guess mine would be Giant Size X-Men #1 and X-Men #94 (first and second appearance of the second X-Men team). I also have every issue after that up to the latest one. I'm not really into going back and finding the earlier issues from the 60s anymore--except for if I win lotto or something. Right now I'm content with just reading the 60s issues in hardcover form now that they have all been reprinted in the Marvel Masterworks series.

I don't like to play favorites, so there are no particular issues that I value more than others. Although, I am partial to the initial run of Ironman. I remember buying issue #100 as a youngster and have been working backwards ever since to find issues 1-99.

I started reading/collecting in 1975, as an 8 year old. Today, I have just about 40 long boxes in the house that drive the wife crazy nuts

I have X-Men #94-#101. I don't have it in front of me, but I think #101 was the first appearance of Jean Grey as Phoenix.

I also have the giant-size Spider-man vs. Superman book DC & Marvel did back in the mid-70s.

DC published a few oversize Justice League books recently, but they aren't the same.

nah, there's just something to the seventies-ness of those old marvel giant sized comics...the inking that looks like it was done with a paint roller, the primary colors, the old skool art (kirby, romita sr., etc.) - the binding, the page texture, the smell of the ink...those things are like a nostalgia sensory overload for me. lol

Yeah, that's exactly what I meant. Two of the oversize JLA books were by Alex Ross and looked BEAUTIFUL. Too beautiful to inspire any sort of nostalgia for the old tabloid-size comics.

Yep.

This is the best one: http://www.amazon.com/JLA...1563899116

This oversize one is pretty good, but some people didn't like the story: http://www.amazon.com/JLA...F8&s=books

I'm sure one in mint condition would run $200.00+.

I came across some more old books;

THE CAT(before she became Tigra) - #1-4

LUKE CAGE, HERO for HIRE #17(fights Iron Man, switches name to Power Man).

SPIDER-MAN #123(first battle with Luke Cage)

DEFENDERS #4(first Valkrye)

SPIDER-MAN #136-137(first Harry Osborn as the Green Goblin)

I have so much sh!t from the 70s, it's not even funny. I was heavy into Marvel back then. In addition to the main titles, I bought Man-Thing, Sub-Mariner, Master of Kung-Fu, Ghost Rider, Werewolf by Night, Marvel Team-Up, Howard the Duck, etc. I didn't get into DC until the mid-80s when they revamped their universe. John Byrne's 6-issue MAN of STEEL & Frank Miller's DARK KNIGHT RETURNS are a MUST for serious comic-book fans.

Multiply that by 5 and you are in the ballpark. Wolverine is insanely popular.
