I think it was around this time last year this topic last surfaced. Pity the search engine isn't working because there was a very interesting and lengthy thread on it, which I'd provide a link to if I could.

My opinion on ouija boards remains the same :

It's a game, it's a game, it's a game. Nothing more.

Those who have strange, scary, or any kind of experience do so simply because they overestimate the power of a piece of cardboard with numbers and letters on it, and they underestimate the power of their imaginations.

That's just because it never worked for you. biggrin comfort

sad Where did I say it didn't work for me?

I have a very active imagination, it worked brilliantly for me. biggrin

I wonder if ghosts can haunt web sites too... smile like random spooky messages that appear on your site for no reason. Maybe it's gonna take a few more decades before we get enough dead people who are web saavy.

Wasn't there just a movie out this summer about that very thing? hmmm

You know, you're right I forgot about that. I think it was called "Pulse" or something like that?

Yeah, I don't mess with that. In a ministry I'm involved with, I've seen the ravages of demonic oppression. It's not pretty.

A lot of the cases start with folks "playing" with Ouija boards and tarot situations. Sometimes, it's not even their involvement but that of their ancestors.

It seems harmlessly creepy and good for a laugh. It's deeper than that, and tends to have more serious consequences.

I recommend these books for reading:

"Occult ABC," "They Shall Expel Demons..." and "Pigs in the Parlor."

I will. It's not that I don't believe in ghosts (or at least unexplained phenomena that often bear resemblance to dead people), I just don't believe that a piece of cardboard with numbers and letters on it can give anyone the ability to communicate with dead people.

I assume you believe that it does work, i.e. that ghosts are communicating via the oiuja board ?

I can provide you with a very easy method to prove that it's the participants controlling it, and that any perceived communication with dead people is purely the product their imaginations. Only if you want, though; if you prefer to believe that it does work then I don't want to spoil that for you either.

A bit off topic again....but when my daughter was 6 or 7 years old, she and a friend were playing with a small tape recorder we had...she was used to using it becuz she liked singing into it (a natural when it came to karaoke) lol

Anyway, she just turned it on while they were playing and recorded their conversation....when she played it back there was a third voice on the tape recorder...not in the background mind you, but in the foreground!!! It was a deep, menacing, unworldly laughter!!! eek

Anyway, they came screaming out to the kitchen where I was cooking, both sobbing almost uncontrollably they were so scared....in a few minutes after they settled down, my daughter told me what was on the recorder...so of course I was compelled to play it back....and let me tell you, I have never felt a chill run down my spine quite like that before!!!! It was the spookiest thing I had ever heard! eek

I threw that tape recorder up on to the top shelf of one of the kitchen cabinets and didn't think about it again for probably a year.....one day I ran across it and decided to play it back (my daughter was in school at the time)...

And guess what? The voice was gone....vanished...although the children's voices were still there!!!! Thinking about that voice right now gives me chills just like the day I first played it!!! eek

And btw, my daughter never asked to use that tape recorder again after that day....

That's what I'm sayin'....I never used to believe all the stuff I heard and read...but now let's jus say, I don't disbelieve anymore...there is something to it.....

A previous owner of the house died from carbon monoxide poisioning in the garage....he used to work on cars out there as a hobby....so it apparently wasn't a suicide....

Anyway, several ppl that visited us throughout the years mentioned they felt 'a presence' in the house, and I had never mentioned the fact that someone had died here...now whether that voice was his or not, I wouldn't have any idea...but even my daughter said she always felt a presence by the thermostat in the hallway....I had never told her about the house's previous history either...OK, I'm creepin' myself out again! lol

Only if you want, though; if you prefer to believe that it does work then I don't want to spoil that for you either.

I've never really given it much thought as to whether it is actually a ghost, spirit, whatever you want to call it, that is in the room with me that's controlling it actually. I never said, "Wow, there are spirits communicating with us!" but that's because it just seemed normal to me.

I have no idea how it works, so I'd be interested in hearing what you think may be causing it. But I'm sure my mother wouldn't be the one "in on it" if it were all a joke. lol She's always been very much into the occult and she doesn't joke about stuff like that, so she would never try to con us I'm sure. Like I said, we did this VERY often and I'm sure I would know if my own mother and other relatives were playing a trick on me, my sisters, friends, etc.

And as I said earlier in this thread, I have lived in a house that was very much haunted, so strange happenings never even really scared me and I never had any reason to think that it was all a fake. shrug But my Ouija board experiences did not take place in this particular house though. We never considered trying it there because it would have been too intense.

I read a psychological study that concluded that collectively everyone was pushing, so it felt like no one was pushing. They confirmed this by using a pressure sensitive glass. confused

i think if you really believe in ouija boards, they're a great way to get in touch with your subconscious mind. i think that is really all ouija and automatic writing is - it's a way of tapping into a part of your mind that does not appear readily available. i don't believe it's a telephone to the spirit world, but i do believe it's a tool to tap into parts of yourself that you might not explore otherwise.

What about people who can make it move just by holding their hand over it and not even touching it at all? biggrin

Minneapolisgenius, I do believe your ouija board experiences, although I've never tried it myself...now why it does the things it does, I wouldn't know...but it is certainly "food for thought".....

I always heard such bad things about the ouija, I didn't have the guts to try it..... lol

My younger brother was staying over at a friend's house one night, and they had a few other people over and broke out the ouija board in the basement. They didn't get anything comprehensive from it, but a short time after they gave up my brother had someone whisper in his right ear...but there was absolutely no one sitting to that side of him! eek

the pointer could have a magnet or a metal piece in it, and she could have a magnet in her hand under the table. i'm not saying it couldn't have potentially been a real incident, but let's just say my skepticism runs pretty deep till you get to my willingness to believe.

My aunt wouldn't go to all that trouble to fool anyone. lol You'd have to know her to know for sure, but she just wouldn't. It was soemthing she practiced actually. You know, like Uri Geller? She could move things without touching them. She'd practice for hours.

Which is why I never really said that I thought it was actual ghosts moving the Ouija board. We'd get stories all about the different lives of the personalities we "met" though the board, (one man in particular actually) but who knows where they came from. My aunt was able to make the thing move across the board and answer questions without even touching it though. But if it was her doing it with her mind, or some outside source, I can't say.

As for ghosts? Hell YES do I believe in them because I've lived with them. That doesn't necessarily mean I think they have anything to do with the Ouija board though. They could be two totally separate phenomenons. Or not. biggrin
