I am STILL computer-less (Update) Okay, obviously I'm writing on something or else there would be nothing in this post. I've still got the work computer but I am now among the realm of the Amish in the sense that I am virtually sans modern technology. We have been working off a borrowed computer for several months but we had to give it back yesterday. Last night, the wife and kids fell asleep early and instead of typing away, I was forced to watch horrible television and (shudder) read a book. I fell asleep from the boredom at about 9:30 which is a good 3 hours earlier than my usual slumber time.
This situation doesn't look to be fixed in the immediate future as we are still going through the bankruptcy stuff. In a month we'll be able to get a computer but what should I do until then? Should I buy something from cheapnotebooks.com or take a chance on a $200 computer from eBay? There are of course plenty of other terrible things that could happen in my world but this is pretty bad. Maybe I'll take up knitting or basketweaving.... [Edited 9/21/06 9:22am] [Edited 9/25/06 9:10am] All good things they say never last...

I am trying to teach myself computer repair. I've gotten like 3 partial broken computers that I am going to merge into one super computer. Should take me about 3 years to do it. All good things they say never last...

Have you considered taking up Whittling, or how about soap sculpting?
Consider buying a cheap computer if youre only looking to use it for basic stuff like the internet and email etc. BUT, be careful, you dont want a dud machine. A lot of people sell computers that are only about a year old. Look in your local listing cos that way you can take a look at it before you part with any cash.

If I could go back in time and get one of those Radio Shack Tandy computers that would be fine as long as it was Internet compatible. All good things they say never last...

It probably needs about an hour to warm up first.

It probably needs about an hour to warm up first. I think I had one of those. I remember entering like like this programming code into one of those computers for like 4 hours so it would play a 2 minute song with a multi-color background. I'd give my eyeteeth to have that thing back now. All good things they say never last...

Sams Club has a mini tower HP system with a 17" LCD monitor for $499.
Don't forget the extra costs of having a used computer shipped to you, not to mention you won't have any warranty with it. Your local newspaper probabbly has some used computers in the classifieds as well.

Do you download the files on a data stick, go to page 43. Do you use a rewritable CD, go to page 68. You choose page 68 and here's what happens. You get out your rewriteable CD only to find out that there is actually a Coldplay CD. The room blows up and you die. The End All good things they say never last...

Maybe I'll try the flea market this weekend. All good things they say never last...
