Carrots!

I must eat about three or four raw carrots a day. They're so much healthier than other snacks and taste great with nothing added.

I can't eat a lot of fruit because I get heartburn easily. Carrots are a great fruit substitute and are very alkaline, yet sweet-tasting. I love the crunchiness too.

I just peel them quickly under running water, top & tail them, then eat.

If you're thinking of dieting or giving up smoking, try eating carrots!

My dog can’t eat many foods due to allergies one of the treat he loves is a raw carrot. lol

Justin go 2 ur local health food shop and purchase Aloe Vera drink it will settle your stomach and stop your indigestion.

Really? Zantac, Gaviscon and calcium tablets work but they only seem to have a temporary effect.

I absolutely love it. lol It's usually my birthday cake. And I love carrots in soup and things. It's just that whenever I bring carrots in a baggie to work, they never get eaten. sad

Now that I think of it, one of my daycare providers had carrots in their garden and we kids used to pluck them, rinse them under the spigot, and eat them in large numbers. Raw vegetables are a delight.

Just not carrots nowadays, I guess.

Justin U take it daily and it works you can also use treabarks with it, treabarks works real quick 2 smile

I like carrots! yummy! And I get really bad heartburn too, i will have to remember that!

Im full of the stories tonight lol - Carrot story!

My papa, my Mums Dad, was a navagator in the RAF during the war, and they did actually used to feed them carrots *constantly* to make them see in the dark!! :wacko: So much so that, a simple man from the country with nothing fancy about his diet or upbringing, he refused to eat them ever again when he came back! lol

My Mum was making soup a few months ago, as she has done very often ever since she could, just the same old fashioned broth my Gran made, and she was killing her delicate little hands grating carrots - she came in and said "why in the hell am I grating carrots?! You're Papa's not going to eat this soup?!" My gran had to grate them to hide them from him. I dont know why he thought the soup was orange lol

You can store them for weeks in a fridge until they go icky. I throw a lot of other food like tomatoes away but the carrots are like happy orange troopers, holding fort in my fridge's salad drawer.

That sounds yummy! My Mum makes parsnips that way, hmm, I gonna try that!

confused thats the only way Ive ever had parsnips!!

Will have to be adventurous with my parsnip purchases....

You know, I need to be more adventurous with my vegetable purchases. I avoid some veggies because I know they'll take ages to peel, like swedes and turnips.

You know what my favourite thing to do with swede is???

Cut it into chunks;
Steam it in a pressure cooker;
Put it in a bowl with some cooked carrots;
Add a huge blob of butter;
Sprinkle with table salt, white pepper and just half a teaspoon of nutmeg;
Mash the swede and carrots together.

It's heavenly!!!

Don't buy the Aunt Bessie pre-packaged frozen cack. If you have a pressure cooker, it only takes as long as microwaving the Aunt Bessie stuff, to actually steam the carrots and swede...

Oh, Im wit ya! I cant *stand* all this premade stuff, frozen, *shudder*

It is difficult to prepare them though confused Worth it though, and if it was good enough for my Gran...!

I just boil them, and mash them shrug I could eat piles of mashed turnip drool (which I think is the one you call swede, not turnip confuse )

as a side dish, try them with fresh chopped mint! steamed & lightly glazed by tossing with a little olive oil, honey, and a pinch of salt cool

A swede is a specific kind of turnip. It's more yellow in colour and has a stronger more "cabbage" taste. You can read all about swedes at wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rutabaga

Agreed, they're horrid but I LOVE raw ones... yesterday I started my way towards a lower weight/better health and I bought a lot of carrots cos they're filling and a great between meals snack. I made long thin slivers of carrot yesterday and fried it up quickly with some onions and spices, it was good. drool


Justin, check out a drug called Omeprazol, I take it against my heartburn (gotten by taking other meds rolleyes ) and the effect lasts for about 36 hours on me, way better than sissy Zantac. If you can't find the drug under that name, orgnote me and I'll find out what the active substance is called. hug

My housemate doesn't like carrots so - whenever I make a roast - I have to improvise with something else. How can you not like carrots??!

I'm going to try that honey/sea salt/foil technique next time! Sounds drool

And for people whom don't like carrots, try making carrot french fries! Cut a carrot lengthways and then cut each half lengthways again. Then chop your four long quarters in half widthways. Plunge the carrots into a pan full of corn oil for about eight minutes and then place on paper towel to remove the excess oil.

Serve the carrot french fries by drizzling with a mix of melted butter and a teaspoon of English Mustard. The melted butter/mustard mix is also good drizzled over baby new potatoes. Just melt two ounces of butter in a teacup in a microwave and stir in the mustard. You can add half a teaspoon of garlic granules too, if you're feeling creative.
