Milty needs a shoulder to cry on......

So it seems that my lady that I have been seeing for the past year is leaving in January to further her education and that means leaving for another country. She may be gone for around 5 years as she has always wanted to stay away and further her career once she graduates.
So this leaves our relationship in peril. more than likely we will keep seeing each other at the start of the seperation but i'm sure it will wind itself down naturally. that makes me horrendously sad.
i wish she could stay...or i could go with her (that's the better option as i would want her to fulfill her dreams more than anything). we are in love and that's going to make the pain that much harder.

i dunno....anyone else in a long term relationship?

I managed to maintain my relationship long distance 3 or 4 months on and 5 or 6 months off for nearly 2 years, but it was very tough. You just need to talk everything through with her and see if you think you can have a go at this. If you're in love it'd be a shame not to give it a good try at least.

Goodness Milton...

If ever there was truth in this saying... (Correct me, I know I have it a bit mixed up) ~Smile.

If you love someone
Set them free
If they come back
It was meant to be

If they don't...
lol is there a second part to this... ?

(only now have I seen/felt the huge truth in this)

~Hugs.

The other saying... lol

It is better to have loved
Than to not love at all

Then I found these...

If you love someone..
-----

The Original:
If you love someone,
Set her free...
If she comes back, she's yours,
If she doesn't, she never was....

Now the New Versions.....

-----

Pessimist:
If you love someone,
Set her free ...
If she ever comes back, she's yours,
If she doesn't, as expected, she never was

Optimist:
If you love someone,
Set her free ...
Don't worry, she will come back.

Suspicious:
If you love someone,
Set her free ...
If she ever comes back, ask her why.

Impatient:
If you love someone,
Set her free ...
If she doesn't comes back within some time
forget her.

Patient:
If you love someone,
Set her free ...
If she doesn't come back, continue to wait
until she comes back ...

Playful:
If you love someone,
Set her free ...
* If she comes back, and if you love her
still,
set her free again, repeat *

C++ Programmer:
if(you-love(m_she))
m_she.free()
if(m_she == NULL)

In fact, all living creatures deserve to be free!!

Lawyers:
If you love someone,

amendment of the Matrimonial Freedom Act clearly states that...

Bill Gates :
If you love someone,
Set her free,
If she comes back,
I think we can charge her for re-installation fees
but tell her that she's also going to get an upgrade.

Biologist :
If you love someone,
Set her free,
She'll evolve.

Statisticians :
If you love someone,
Set her free,
If she loves you, the probability of her coming back is high
If she doesn't, your relation was improbable anyway.

Schwarzenegger's fans:
If you love someone,
Set her free,
SHE'LL BE BACK!

"If you love someone
Set them free
If they come back
It was meant to be"

Don't listen to garbage like that. That's bullshit. If you let her go, she'll be gone. It won't be a romantic movie where you two are reunited under a sky of fireworks. Not likely. She'll marry someone else.

Don't let go of her. If you can, go with her.

Worst case scenario, it doesn't work out, and you had the adventure of a lifetime. Best case scenario, you thank yourself for having went with her when you're married to her.

if u can afford it and if things will be safe for you to do so, go with her...
if you feel that things are serious enough that you see a long beautiful future with her, go with her

follow your heart, and if it's leaving with her, you know what to do..

...go with her.

I may be knocked for saying this but she is choosing her education/career over your relationship. Move on.

Will she be moving around a lot? Couldn't you do what you do now close to where she'll be?

just to clarify, this is something she always intended on doing before we met. we both knew this before getting into a relationship that this might happen so it's not a surprise.
i can't go with her cuz i'm not American. She'll be in NYC. she actually has U.S. citizenship.
and no Spats, you wanker, she did not choose her career over the relationship.

Supa is right (of course) but they can work you just need to decide how you feel. I moved to the US for 2.5 years after meeting a girl only ten days before I left the UK. We maintained the relationship with many expensive flights and long holidays together and of course good old webcam. That girl is now my wife and mother of my son. I can't imagine ever having got on that plane knowing I would never see her again and I nearly didn't go because of it. Living apart was sooooo incredibly difficult, at times nigh on impossible but I just wante dyou to know that it can be done.

All the best, whichever route you take.
