senik said: susannah said: Still coughing my heart out today...gonna phone the doctor I think Mate, very glad you're safe (including your unmindful mate buddy ). Approximately 60% of all home fires start in the kitchen, most commonly through neglectfulness whilst cooking (esp. late at night after coming home intoxicated). Make sure you have a right good go at him when you see him. More pressing though, did you go to the doctor for a check up? What did she/he say? From what you describe it should be nothing more than very, very mild superficial heat 'scoulding' to your throat/microvilli, possibly your mouth too. The sooty smoke can be quite an irratant to your respiratory lining, depending on the degree of smoke you inhaled. I'm not going to alarm you with further unnecessary information (so please don't be! You sound like you'll live to kick your flat buddy's arse) but it would be very prudent to get a medic's expert advice. Be on the safe side Mate, I don't mean to go on about the scenario like an old granddad as I can imagine it most certainly can't have been a nice experience for you but I'm presuming there wasn't a smoke alarm, or it didn't go off? (only from it's absence in your account). I know you said your moving pad now but make certain it's got a fully operational smoke alarm (Sorry if that sounded like a lecture I hope you don't perceice it as such ) it wasnt a lecture! Yes, I did have a go at him. As I figured, he didnt remember any of it! My Mum was round before I got home from work yesterday, and he said "I cant remember if I set the kitchen on fire or if Alice had a go at me... " and she said "yes, you DID set the kitchen on fire, and yes, she DID have a go at you!" His tail was well and truly between his legs then. And there it remained as he discovered just how difficult it is to clean a charred cooker lid! The kitchens still a bombsite, but I dont really care, its his problem and his share of the deposit. I am glad to be rid of him though. He was a rubbish flatmate. We didnt have a smoke alarm, no; our landlords a bit dopey. My problem too I suppose, but hey ho. Im moving to my Mums now, so its not an issue! As for the smoke...I was going to make an appointment at the doctors but it will be tommorrow or the day after before Im seen, and it is fading. Its just a bad cough now, which is obviously a good thing becuse it means Im getting rid of it! Thankyou!

Not good, drunken cooking is never a good idea. Get yerself to the GP too, if your throat doesn't feel better in the morning. Finally, get some decent aluminium foil, what kind of cheep shit melts like the cheese it is supposed to be supporting! Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). I second the above Get to your Doctors - I would think that breathing any amount of Smoke could cause issues - If only minor ones at the very least. But I am not a Doctor so wouldn't really know Better safe than sorry As for your Flatmate.....Whoop his ass til the middle of next week !! .........Gimme your Doughnut,,,,,,

Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat?

Old news now, but thanks Willy! your new avatar scares me, by the way It is rather old isn't it? Whoops. Well, I am glad just the same that you are alright. Yes, I am not looking well. This is what happens to one's looks when one disregards proper nutrition and indulges in too much candy, and doesn't take care of one's teeth! Be warned!
