My drunken flatmate almost burned the place down!

omfg

Thank God we're moving out this week!

The stupid bastard put cheese on toast under the grill and fell asleep rolleyes

Annoying, to say the least, except this time it caught fire, and everything in the whole flat, in all the rooms, is covered with a fine layer of soot. I blew my nose this morning, and it came out black!! My throat and chest is killing me mad

I took pictures to show you all!

the cooker - which was white when I left it

The grill pan - notice what was most likely once cheese on toast is now ash, and the aluminium foil has disintegrated...

It wasn't ablaze when I came in, so it mustve gone out already because it ran out of things to burn...

I wouldnt really mind about his stupid - very stupid - mistake, if he hadnt laughed at me in his drunken haze when I told him what he had done, or if he had apologised at all! Instead he moved most of his stuff out this morning, leaving all surfaces in the house, including clean dishes and washing, covered in soot. He'll be back tommorow, and he is going to get it in the neck!!!

lol

Well, its just that he never takes any responsibility for anything he does! Like when he covered the kitchen in soot, moved out, and left me to cook in it. Or when he filled the flat with smoke and made me ill, and ignored me. Probably scared. He knows what I'm like! lol

He'll be back tommorrow though biggrin

Me too! I mean, if the grill was ablaze, all it would have taken was for something close to it to catch. And he would have still been asleep in his room, oblivious. Or I could have been!

Good luck to him - Im glad I dont have to live with him anymore.

Well, that's good then. nod I've gone on calls with her where they've brought people out of burning houses, and they usually leave it up to the person whether or not they want to be transferred to the hospital, if they are up and about and able to talk. hmmm But that's all I know. lol I don't know of the long-term effects of smoke inhalation, and at what degree you should go to the doctor, etc. :err

Oh I doubt its that serious. To be honest though I was still a bit intoxicated when I came in, so the level of smoke might have been a bit worse than I remember! Probably clear up in a few days confused

That sounds incredible, what an amazing job she has! clapping

Yes, I'm very proud of her. nod She's a fire captain and a paramedic, and so is her husband. Actually, she's a rank higher than her husband is in the fire department. biggrin

biggrin Girl Power!! lol

biggrin I actually called her the other night while she was at work and she said, "Yeah, I'm about to start up the chainsaw right now". lol They have to test all the equipment once a week to make sure it's always working, and she said the chainsaw was her least favorite job. lol

Mate, very glad you're safe hug (including your unmindful mate buddy confused ).

Approximately 60% of all home fires start in the kitchen, most commonly through neglectfulness whilst cooking (esp. late at night after coming home intoxicated). Make sure you have a right good go at him when you see him.

More pressing though, did you go to the doctor for a check up? What did she/he say? From what you describe it should be nothing more than very, very mild superficial heat 'scoulding' to your throat/microvilli, possibly your mouth too. The sooty smoke can be quite an irratant to your respiratory lining, depending on the degree of smoke you inhaled.

I'm not going to alarm you with further unnecessary information (so please don't be! lol You sound like you'll live to kick your flat buddy's arse) but it would be very prudent to get a medic's expert advice. Be on the safe side wink

Mate, I don't mean to go on about the scenario like an old granddad as I can imagine it most certainly can't have been a nice experience for you but I'm presuming there wasn't a smoke alarm, or it didn't go off? (only from it's absence in your account).

I know you said your moving pad now but make certain it's got a fully operational smoke alarm wink

hug

(Sorry if that sounded like a lecture hug I hope you don't perceice it as such smile )

sigh I'm glad you're safe and going to be away from this idiot. hug I'd suggest going to see your doc about the smoke inhalation. He or she can perhaps suggest something to help clear your lungs.
