Fauxie - Fancy Popping to England for a couple of months? Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has declared a state of emergency in Bangkok amid rumours of a state coup.
"I declare Bangkok under a severe state of emergency," he said on television. He is currently at the UN in New York. The measure came after tanks reportedly took up position around the Thai government headquarters in Bangkok blocking traffic. An army-owned TV station is showing images of the royal family and songs linked in the past with military coups. Mr Thaksin ordered troops not to "move illegally", Reuters quoted him as saying in a voice broadcast on Thai television . Link. | |
