The "Totally Hits" Discs, Who Buys These Compilations?

I don't understand the logic behind the purchasing of the Totally Hits discs... I know they're all the latest hottest pop songs, and I don't have a problem with that... it's just, don't peeps realize that u can download all of these songs and compile them urselves?

Why spend good money on compilations, when u could b buying the artist's whole album!

Here's the latest 2 hit the shelves:

New 'Totally Hits' Disc Packs In 20 Tracks

Hit singles by Pink, Michelle Branch, and P. Diddy are among the 20 tracks on "Totally Hits 2002: More Platinum Hits." Due Oct. 29 via Warner Music Group/BMG, the sixth volume in the series combines music from a variety of genres with tracks by Usher, the Hives, Boyz II Men, and more.

"More Platinum Hits" is the second in the series to be released this year. Issued in June, "Totally Hits 2002" boasted cuts by Craig David, LeAnn Rimes, and Faith Evans and debuted at No. 2 on The Billboard 200. Like the first edition, the Recording Industry Association of America has certified "2002" double platinum for U.S. shipments of 2 million copies, while three of its predecessors have reached the platinum level.

The new collection sports no less than six tracks that reached the top-10 of Billboard's Hot 100: Usher's "U Don't Have To Call," which reached No. 3 (as well as No. 2 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart), P. Diddy's "I Need A Girl (Part One)" (No. 4 Hot 100, No. 2 R&B/Hip-Hop), Mario's "Just a Friend 2002" (No. 4 Hot 100 and R&B/Hip-Hop), Branch's "All You Wanted" (No. 6 Hot 100), Pink's "Don't Let Me Get Me" (No. 8 Hot 100), and DJ Sammy & Yanou's revamp of Bryan Adams' "Heaven (Candlelight Mix)" (No. 8 Hot 100).

One track included on "Totally Hits 2002: More Platinum Hits" is a hopeful hit to be from "American Idol" runner-up Justin Guarini. The singer, who recently signed to "Idol" creator Simon Fuller's 19 Recordings label, makes his professional debut on the compilation with the song "Get Here." His debut album will be licensed to RCA for U.S. release.

Here is the "Totally Hits 2002: More Platinum Hits" track list:

"Don't Let Me Get Me," Pink
"All You Wanted," Michelle Branch
"I Need a Girl (Part One)," P. Diddy featuring Usher & Loon
"Just a Friend 2002," Mario
"U Don't Have To Call," Usher
"Heaven (Candlelight Mix)," DJ Sammy & Yanou featuring Do
"Full Moon," Brandy
"Awnaw," Nappy Roots featuring Jazze Pha
"If I Could Go," Angie Martinez featuring Lil' Mo & Sacario
"Satellite," P.O.D.

All I can say is that I have seen so many peoples' collections consist ONLY of these 'hits' compilations and 'Jock Jams" vol. 1 - 10, and MTV Party to Go and Club Hits 1 - 10. It scares me when I see this in someone's house that I know.

Oh My God! I saw the FUNNIEST thing about a month ago...

I was in a drive thru at the bank, when in the next drive thru lane a man pulls up in a white convertible Miata, about 35 and clueless.

He was BLASTING that song "Mambo #5" "...alittle bit of Monica...etc"

He was bobbing his head and had an arm extended, just laid out on the passenger seat...just pimpin' you know.

I laughed out loud at him for thinking he was SO cool.

When I worked at a "trendy" store at the mall we would have to put compilation disks in the cd player all the time. I couldn't stand it. But I have to say, there are a few 80's compilations that are pretty good... redface

I agree with u on that! I have many compilation discs of certain eras, the 50's, the 60's the 70's... etc. My main beef is with those of the current Top 40 hits just released!

I rather make my own. mr.green

Anyone want to buy a white Miata? It's gotta a fresh 8-track stereo system, and groovy factory speakers...

Two weeks ago, while walking down Pacific (the main store downtown - they have lots of cool shops and weird people and fun things going on, like Telegraph in Berkeley only without the street vendors) two guys who must have been in their midtwenties were rolling down the street in a convertible with these weird purple lights on the bottom of the car... checking out the girls as they rolled past SUPER slowly, while listening to "Cowboy" by Kid Rock.

SO LAME.

Music is in a pretty sad state right now...w/ artists often only delivering one one or two tracks that are listenable per album...compilations save people the expense of paying $20 for a full length CD when there is only only decent track ...all of the hits on one album ...also these "totally hits" type compilations combine hits from a range of musical styles...just like radio used to know how to...that's probably why thses damn things sell bunches of copies

Cd's like 'Totally Hits' remind me of the old K-Tel records that were around when I was a kid. It's cheaper to get all your current favorite songs on one cd than it is to go out and buy all the individual ones. Stuff like this is made with the babysitting-minimum wage earning teenybopper kids in mind.
