I'd rather have a partner who thought hostels and the occasional sleep outside were a fun way to travel than a partner who owned a 5 star hotel. Someone who's got good taste in music rather than good taste in designer suits.

Be interesting and intelligent, and a person's guaranteed 100 times more likely to get in my pants than someone rich. thumbs up!

having both would be nice, too. sometimes it's fun to stay in a hostel. sometimes it's fun to stay in a five star hotel.

Mothafuckas KILLL me trying to put othe people on shout for being wealthy, when we as Americans have it pounded into our heads daily that we are the richest country in the world and that therefore is the reason why everyone hates us and is jealous of us...that is total BULL. Newsflash: there are a number of countries that are just as wealthy as we are, and have people who live larger than we do ,and BIG DEAL. SO WHAT. They believe in free enterprise just as we do and forecefully try to spread globally very 5 minutes, so, unless we're simply being envious of how they're rolling... perhaps we should shut the hell up and live and let live confused...I've been to parts of rural Atlanta where kids are walking around barefoot sucking on juicepops for lunch and I don't see folks over in Dunwoody or Alpharetta running over to the hood in their oversized gas guzzling Mercedes with pinic baskets trying to feed them: and WHY??? Because let's be real: America is the land of DO IT YOURSELF, PULL YOURSELF UP BY YA BOOTSTAPS IF YOU WANT TO EAT OR HAVE A BIG HOUSE AND DON'T BE MAD AT ME JUST COZ I GOT OVER BECAUSE YOU SHOULD DO IT YA DAMN SELF...if that's our metality then who the HELL are we to be judging somebody else because they are freely exercising capitalist principals for their own wealth...noit to mention, we don't know WHO these people give their money to for charity purposes or what programs they fund to help the less fortunate, so WHY JUDGE?

Okay. rant over...and I swear I didn't mean that BITCHY lol

Well, there does come a point where things are just ridiculously over-the-top as far as what extreme amounts of money can buy. confused This is one of those cases, no question. You can't seriously say that this is "normal" wealth, and normal behavior. My cousin lives in Dubai, and from what I've heard from her, it's pretty damn ridiculous as far as how much money is put into the non-stop construction that takes place there, and the building of even more things like this.

Yes, we all need islands and solid silver cars in our lives. nutty

Perhaps we ALL do not. However there are those who are inclined to do so, and I'm not going to judge them for it. I come from a country where people amassed ridiculous amounts of wealth based on the backs of human trafficking (southern slave owners) and later by monopolizing indutries (the robber baron dynasties). In my view that puts us a bit in the "can't see the forest for the tree catagory" and as those who know very well that we have lived in the glass house, really shouldn't throw stones.

As has often been the cycle in history, the wealthy maintain ridiculously sized residences, often losing them at a later time as they become public property and societal structures change/evolve. But since we're in the mood to criticize, shouldn't we also maintain the same level of criticism of the royal family of England, the members of our closest ally? Have you seen the digs THEY keep under warps the world over? And they aren't even used in a state capacity rather than for a connection to tradition, pomp, and circumstance confused

The people we are discussing make those "The Fabulous Life Of...." shows about celebrities look like the ghetto by comparison. confused

The British royals don't have a fraction of what some of these sultans do. Nor do any of the royals from other countries. I've been in the royal palaces in the Netherlands, and know pretty well what most other royals the world over "have" because my brother-in-law and sister-in-law are the personal assistants to the Queen of Holland and the rest of the royal family here. So I get the "inside scoop" on how these people live, because they travel all over the world with them to stay at every palace imaginable.

There IS such a thing as too much.
