She picked up a twig, broke it in half and laid it on the squirrel in the sign of a cross! I was gobsmacked!!! Are all Canadians like this??? Here's a pic of a wooly bear. Down south, they're called wooly worms:
I have seen some wooly bears that were entirely black, no orange on them at all - really cool! That lady who picked up that squirrel, put it on the grass, and then laid a cross on it is either a die-hard animal fan or a bit nuts. I dont know the details but according to the amount of color they have determines the type of winter you will have. Granted its an old wives tale, but interesting to know next time you see one. althom said: althom said: Ok..here's the latest about those dead stingrays.
The location of where they were found is Harvey Bay. Nowhere even close to where Steve was killed. The second thing is that the locals there said that the Stingrays had been lying on the beach even before Steve was killed. So they have no conection to Steve what so ever. I don't know how they died, but it's just a reporter trying to conect the two for a good story. Ok....back on topic. I found an answer as to why there were stingrays on the beach. It seems the local fishermen trawl, with nets, for fish in that area and the stingrays always get cought in the nets. When they cut free the stingrays, they cut off it's tail. Don't worry.....they're already dead before they do that. The tail is what gets cought in the nets and they seem to just throw them back into the sea. So the stingrays that were found on the beach had actually washed up from the sea.....that's why they were scatted all along the beach. Well, according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald yesterday - the same day as your post - the spate of mutilated stingrays is still being investigated by Queensland state officials. http://www.smh.com.au/new...28179.html The mutilations have also occurred at Deception Bay, north of Brisbane,

mrdespues said: Erin,
The article had a few salient points, but the problem I have with Greer and a lot of journalists like her who have the nerve to put on the expert hat and criticise the way Steve died is that they are just plain smug and it reeks of inverted sensationalism. Journalists think they know everything - I know this from having spent a year in a journalism course and simply being literate most of my life. Your level of literacy is debatable, especially when examining the above paragraph. mrdespues said: The article is insensitive and the points she makes are not worthy and quite disproportionate to the loss of life.
Greer's article is less insensitive than poking countless wild animals with a stick. mrdespues said: Anyone who watched his shows could tell that Steve knew that animals need space...
mrdespues said: But he was just a human and he made a mistake.
A mistake? Just the one???
mrdespues said: And of course, the vultures (journos) come to pick at the bones ASAP.
Many journalists and social commentators had also questioned Irwin's credentials prior to his death. What better way to gain exposure for their concerns than whilst the man is newsworthy? If journalists never commented on the lives of those whom die in tragic circumstances, there'd be very little news at all. mrdespues said: It really grosses me out and basically if you are trying to make too many points beyond the simple fact that he fucked up, I think you are pretty cold.
Why shouldn't JustErin address as many points as she likes? Personally, I find the blind worship of this man "grosses me out"... I also don't think it's polite to call JustErin "cold" - especially when it's evident that she's just as passionate about wildlife as your fallen hero was.

I hated to see them on there. I always thought it was horrible that people were so desensitized to seeing dead animals on the road. I even had a box, gloves and a towel in the back of my truck just for doing that...but it was only the ones that were not all crushed or smooshed to hell. Then one evening, I went to remove a little skunk that got hit. Poor thing looked like it was just sleeping. I picked it up by the scruff to move it when suddenly all it's guts spilled out all over the road. That was the very last time I moved dead animals to the ditch. So.. it was YOU?? Aha! Nah.. that's very good of you Erin.

I haven't seen it today, but if I do, it is going to be ejected outside.
