I used to sit on a bench all the time where this photo was taken from beautiful!!!!! where is that, hon? Home! Dunfermline. there this... ok story time: At one point, around year 1000, the king lived not in London but in Sunny Dunfermline. You may have heard of King Malcolm and his wife Saint Margaret? The saint bit happened later - she was quite special because she was Catholic at a time when that was not a good thing! Theres a cave waaay down into the ground she used to go into to pray, you can still go down So anyway, they lived in the Palace, still there as a ruin, with all these (pics) lands around it. The Abbey there is just as old. Andrew Carnegie, big shot entrprenuer circa 1870s or something like that, but Dunfy Native(I believe he made his millions through slavery, but gave them all back to the people with places like carnegie hall, which exists in Dunfermline and New yerk - we also have libraries, swimming pools, parks...), bought all these lands and lived in a little house on them. When he dies, it was gifted to the town, as was everything else he did, and lo and behold,we now have this massive and extremely beautiful park to wander in, with palaces and abbeys and the graves of countless important people, including King Robert the Bruce (have you seen Braveheart?!) sorry, I do rabbit on, but Im homesick! And I know youre almost as much of a history geek as me I will of course take you if you'd like... no pressure now! [Edited 9/13/06 2:35am] | |
