But up in the north it is meant as a friendly term... (lol)

otherwise they would end up with a broken bottle in their face..

(what am I saying - sheesh.. disbelief )

Course nobody calls ME that - cos I dont even go out .. cry

but yeah I have heard the terms.. but its all in jest..

(I think) confused

I can remember I went out ( many years ago) and this old man said to me *Get yer hair cut you silly witch* !!!

I was shocked!

but last time he saw me I had short hair, and had I tken it personally and questioned him about it, it would have caused more ructions and trouble than had I not..

so I just laughed, said something equally sarcastic to him.. and proceeded to the bar.

Another time, I was out with my sister (now we are known to be quite posh in our area) and one guy shouted across the bar to my sis * De Ya FUCK?*

she just replied nonchalantly - *Only on Thursdays*

giggle

the laugh is always on THEM.. wink

Well in the south its not meant in a friendly way, not really. but its not as strong as slut etc. Its more on a par with tart. But obviously it depends on the context, sometimes friends use it with each other and it's meant in jest when used like that.

are you alright?

I dont equate it with that. Slapper refers to a persons behaviour not their race.

Nooooo I didnt mean that.

What I mrean is, in some cases duck, hen etc esp in north of england is normal.

Ho-er (whore) can be a friendly term as in bitch or beeyatch - depending on who is saying it and to whom.

Nigga word.. (and this isnt a race thread, and pls let it not be) ok lets say films.. no forget that.. my friend Simon in Camberwell, London.. will adress his friends as nigga and they likewise ( as in friendly terms)

This thread is NOT ABOUT RACES, its about how one may say something that to one may come across as being offensive and/or the receiver is not usually too offended by it.

I hope it isn't a race thread, because I'm really not up for any lengthy discussions today.lol. Sorry If i misunderstood.
It does depend on the context as I said, so I agree in that respect.

If I use the term "lady" or "woman" it mean she's old. It's not a compliment.

chick doesn't bother me, and "broad" is kinda funny to me. (hell, i don't even mind "b1tch"! lol )

one term i can't stand, though, is the word "female" used as a noun. don't know why, it just seems derotagory to me. shrug

I feel the same way...the term "female" used as a noun just seems like someone is totally focusing on your genitals and that's all...and what's funny is someone could say that "c" word and it doesn't bother me as much lol

lol yeah, i'd have to agree. and the "c" word is definitely meant in a derogatory way, whereas "female" is usually just general conversation. then again, that's where a lot of the true misogyny lies...
