I am a mammo tech, so if there's one thing I know, it's breasts.

I can honestly say that each size breast has its own cross to bear, but to me, women that have the extremes in breasts seem to have the most issues with them.

Very large breasted women deal with the self doubt that comes with the feeling, that people are only looking at their breasts and not seeing the woman behind the headlights. They also deal with physical pain as very large breasts can cause pain in the back, shoulders and neck.

Very small breasted women deal with the self doubt that comes with the feeling that people are very much aware of how under endowed they are and that they are viewed as less feminine for having little to no breasts.

I would NEVER tell a woman to get or not get implants. It is a very personal decision. HOWEVER, I would encourage any woman contemplating getting implants to consider the following...

1. As mentioned previously, implants have a "shelf-life". Optimally, they should be replaced every 10 years. Except in very special circumstances, if ever, breast implant surgeries are not covered by insurance so the expenses are paid by the patient.

2. Implants can be damaged if the woman is in a serious accident involving high pressure trauma to the chest (ie, a serious car accident It is RARE for implants to rupture due to mammography.).

3. Implants create a high degree of radiographic density which can obscure breast cancers in its earliest stages (when its easiest to cure) on a mammogram.

4. Women who have breast implants must have 8 images taken for their yearly mammogram vs 4. For the first 4 the implant is left in place. These views are to check the integrity of the implant. For the second 4 images, the implant is "displaced", pushed out of the way, and the breast tissue alone is x-ray'ed.

I have performed mammograms on women who had implants older than I am (and I'm almost 40) and women in their 70's and 80's whose implants have gotten hard as rocks. Many have said they regretted getting the implants. So if you know of any women contemplating getting them. Please encourage them to not only think of how they will look NOW, but how they feel about maintaining them, and how they'll feel about having them when they are 50, 60, 70....80.

As a male, I can only speak from my personal experience and preferences, so hear me out.

When I was a kid, my stepmother had to have a double mastectomy because she had huge lumps in both of her breasts which were causing her to get very ill and the doctors couldn't tell whether they were benign or cancerous. (Fortunately they were benign.) My stepmother never got implants, but she did have a couple of silicone prostheses which she would wear underneath her old bras when she went out to parties with friends. Since my stepmother was rather well endowed prior to having her breasts removed, she had some large prostheses. I remember actually feeling these prosthetic boobs and comparing the softness and texture, which felt weird to me at the time, but then again I was only just entering puberty.

My younger sister had gotten breast implants a few years ago but had them removed after about a year because they began to leak. She also wondered why she got them in the first place, and she told me that she just felt really insecure about herself when she got them.

As for myself, I fantasized about hooking up with big-breasted beauties during my awkward adolescent years, but the one thing I noticed about all of the women I was seriously attracted to was that all but maybe two of them had small to normal-sized breasts. (Some of them had nice huge asses though. booty! horny) Of the two big-breasted women I really was hot for, one of them was actually sort of on the plus-size bodywise to begin with, and it was her personality which really attracted me to her in the first place, and the other was very voulptuous and curvy but too self-absorbed at times and had the personality of a doorstop. Nevertheless, despite her gorgeous figure, I lost a lot of my attraction for the second big-breasted woman.

I went to a Playboy Playmate/Penthouse Pet convention a couple of years ago, and while most of the women were quite beautiful, you could tell which ones had boob jobs. In fact, one of the women looked like she had a 16 inch softball cut in half and implanted into each of her boobs. To me it looked really freaky.

As for whether a woman wants to get implants, I tell women I know who are interested in getting them that it's their decision, but they should really stop and think about why they want them. If it's because their boyfriend thinks they would look better with a huge rack, I tell them that they should probably find another boyfriend who appreciates her for who she is. If it's because they want to feel more attractive and get more dates, I would tell them to think about where they will be in 10 years, after they have found the man of their dreams who presumably loves her for who she is, and then stop to think whether she really needed to get a boob job to get the man of her dreams. If it's because of the same situation my stepmother had, I could understand that a little bit more.
