Maybe that's why my parents allowed us to call them by their first names. I have never called my dad, "Dad" I called my mom, "Mom" once and that was because I didn't want my friend to know that I didn't call her "Mom". I just felt extremely wierd saying "Mom". After that one time, I was like forget it, I don't care who knows about what I choose to call my parents.

I'd feel strange rather , if i'd call my parents by their first name

I used to work with a guy named Ra. He spelled his name the exact same way. The first time I saw his name in print, I thought it was a typo. Came to realize that it was not a typo, that was how he spelled his name.

That's funny -- I did the same thing. I called my father "Doc" (which was totally unrelated to his actual name), but I once called him "dad" in front of others. It was so odd I decided never to do it again.
