I really think that this should be split into two categories. One category would be all of the really awful b-movies which are extremely low-bugdeted and don't really aim to be anything more than they are. This encompasses all of the schlocky horror movies from "Plan 9 From Outer Space" to "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" to "Sleepaway Camp" to "Surf Nazis Must Die" plus all of the sad excuses for softcore porn which got started by Roger Corman ("Faster Pussycat, Kill Kill") and continued with "Invasion of the Bee Girls" and ultimately ended up with the Julie Strain/Linnea Quigley/Shannon Tweed type of Playboy Playmate/Penthouse Pet centerfold gets butt naked several times while battling terrorists, bank robbers, etc. Anyway, these movies scream at how bad they are just by the title.

The other category I would have in the worst movie category would be the most disappointing movie. This would enncompass all of the major big screen releases which were total pieces of shit. I would include movies like "Heavens Gate," "Ishtar," "Howard The Duck," "Hudson Hawk," "Showgirls," "Death To Smoochy," "Freddy Got Fingered," "Battlefield Earth," "Gigli," and two movies I really hated, "Armagaddeon" and "Pearl Harbor." These were supposed to be huge movies, but the plotlines were so clumsily set up, they made "Glitter" look good.

Not the worst. But one of my least favorite:

[Movie Theatre]

Peterman and Elaine sit in the auditorium. The English Patient is playing and
many of the crowd are tearfully dabbing their eyes. Peterman is particularly
emotional. Elaine looks completely bored, and is tossing pieces of popcorn up
in the air to try and catch them in her mouth.

PETERMAN: (emotional) And I thought I knew what love was.

One of Elaine's bits of popcorn misses her mouth and falls behind her seat.
Elaine twists round and reaches over to retrieve it, before slumping in her
seat wearily.

ELAINE: (indifferent) Yuh.

- intermission -

[Movie Theatre]

Peterman and Elaine are still in front of The English Patient. Peterman
stares, enraptured, at the screen. Elaine is totally frantic with boredom.

PETERMAN: Elaine, I hope you're watching the clothes, because I can't take my
eyes off the passion.

ELAINE: (quiet vehemence) Oh. No. I can't do this any more. I can't. It's too
long. (to the screen) Quit telling your stupid story, about the stupid
desert, and just die already! (louder) Die!!

The other movie patrons turn and shush Elaine, who sits back in her seat.

PETERMAN: (surprised) Elaine. You don't like the movie?

ELAINE: (shouts) I hate it!!

CROWD: Shh!

ELAINE: (shouts) Oh, go to hell!!

PETERMAN: (quietly) Well, why didn't you say so in the first place? You're
fired.

ELAINE: (grabbing her bag and coat) Great. I'll wait for you outside.

Elaine hurriedly gets out of her seat and leaves.

What does Roger Corman have to do with Russ Meyer's 'Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!'? confuse

Yeah! I hated Lost in Translation too. I didn't get why all the East Village hipsters were swooning over that. It was so fucking boring, imho.

i don't like this movie either. i don't think it was crap, just kinda boring. it had a peaches song in it, so at least it had that going for it.

I must be the only one here that really liked that movie. My one disappointment was that wasn't really Scarlett Johansson's butt in the opening scene.

It really conveyed to me what it feels like to be a foreigner in a country where you don't know the language. I have a mild phobia about that myself so the film connected with me in that way. I didn't find it boring at all. Quite the opposite--it's fascinating in its subtlety.

"The Ring"?? Perhaps it didn't live up to some of the hype or respective expectations, but in no way, shape, or form should this film be considered the worst.

"North"
"Gone Fishing"
"Toys"
"Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde"
"Hysterical"
"Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold"
"The Dukes of Hazzard"
"The Flinstones"
"Nothing But Trouble"
"Exit To Eden"
"Darkness"
"They"
"The Fog"
"Rocky V"

The list just goes and goes...

I didn't think North was that bad.

Have you ever seen a movie called DeathRace 2000? The budget on this is far less than that, and the result are far worse.

If a movie looks REALLY bad, I tend to avoid it. As a result, I haven't seen a lot of the b-movie clunkers mentioned here. But there are some that fooled me:

Embrace Of The Vampire

The Doom Generation

Nowhere

Yes, Gregg Araki fooled me twice. lol

But he redeemed himself with 'Mysterious Skin'.

something tells me mysterious skin was a fluke...cause all of his previous films are HORRID!! HORRIBLE!! and i've now seen three of them...cant event thin of the third title right now...

it was about a bunch of kids recording confessionals about their teen relationships and blah blah blah and blah blah blah...so boring...so horibbly filmed...

I also get a real icky feeling watching his films...like Larry Clark it feels its all being filmed for pedo purposes.

Splendor is the movie you are thinking of...or maybe it was Totally Fucked up.

I actually liked the Doom Generation in his Teen angst Trilogy. Nowhere was a bit of a mess. But Doom gets my vote everytime. Love that movie. "what is this night of the living brain dead?"
