Delivery driver with machete chases robber

YOUNGSTOWN — Armed with a machete, a pizza delivery driver chased an armed robber along South Avenue and East Ravenwood on the city's South Side, police said.

An employee of Pastino's Pizza, 3512 South Ave., told police at 4:11 p.m. Monday that her brother was chasing a man who had just robbed the pizza shop.

Police said the female employee was on the phone when a man armed with a black handgun came behind the counter and demanded money from the cash register. He fled on foot with an undisclosed amount, running north on South Avenue and west on East Ravenwood, police said.

The delivery driver, wielding a machete, chased the robber but lost him in the 300 block of East Ravenwood. The robber was described as a black male in his 40s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, 175 pounds, with dreadlocks and a salt-and-pepper beard. He was wearing black pants and a black hooded sweat shirt, police said.
