Home Owners!! Have you ever had a lodger living with you?
I am thinking about this, but really terrified that the person living with me will damage my furniture and stuff. Afew years ago, I was going to have a friend and work colleague living with me, but whenever she came to stay at my house she would break something, make cups of tea and throw the tea bag in the bin, miss, so it sprayed right up the wall leaving a big stain and loads of other things, plus she never had any money, and I was worried our friendship would suffer cos she was kinda really irresponsible.. (I mean one time she was supposerd to stay at mine, we went clubbing and she never came back till the morning, I was worried sick about her, but she turned up, with bed hair, a broken stiletto and spunk up the back of her coat.. - sorry, just had to add that lol) Any success stories you can tell, or advice to give?

Living with my roomate wasnt to bad, he wasn't very messy in leaving things around other than the kitchen, but he never disturbed my area and was consiterate for the most part when I was sick or sleeping from working alot of hours he always made sure to be quiet or would go out, when I was sick and would fall asleep on the couch he'd come down and put extra blankets on me. There were other problems with living with him that made me want to move out but I cant say it was the worst experience of my life living with a male roomate, really dont think I could live with a female roomate tho.

Jobs are good where I am and they are more highly paid than other places in the counrty, which I suppose ids why everyone who lives where I live are soo fucking rich But yes, we can talk about that sometime, and yes I mean seriously.. Manchester isnt far away either and there are loads of jobs to be found there..

If not in a healthy relationship, living alone is best. Period. Roomates, no way.
~Visitors, that go back to their own home, are nice though.

~Visitors, that go back to their own home, are nice though. Yeah I understand, but I have been living alone so long now, and financially at this moment, I think it best for me to take in a lodger.. btw nice to see you

you could list it with an agency, and have the agency perform all the screening and credit checks etc.

I bought my place 3 years ago, and all furniture and stuff is new.. when Emma came to stay I must have looked soo anal, running after her with a cloth, cos there was red wine spilled everywhere..

I cant believe no one wants to know about the "spunk up the back her coat" ?

I don't know Nicole... but it feels so invasive. I have experienced a few in my time... always trying to help someone out, more so than needing the help. (in the past that is)
It's my way or no way at all. A person must be conditioned, if it was to ever happen. There exists only one person, that has the ability to change it all presently.

I have no experience of this, but Ive known people who've done it and theyve had no horror stories. I'd say try to get someone you know, a family friend, someones daughter...something like that.
There are plenty of websites etc that are reliable too, Im sure Good luck Red! PS you coming next weekend??

But I am never at home anyway, and seem to be paying a mortgage and bills for a place that stands empty most months of the year.. its a complicated scenario.. but I do want to go back home soon and keep it *lived in* [Edited 9/2/06 12:54pm]

~Visitors, that go back to their own home, are nice though. I'm going to agree here. My home is my castle. It's my refuge, my slavation. Don't knock on my door before calling me on the phone. Don't expect your ass to be sheltered under my roof when I've done everything to stablize my own household. There was a time in my life, I had an open door. I would have "friends" come, go and stay a while, they would eat up my food, clog up my tolets, and disrespect my space. My space is mine. Personal space is where one can be themself. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

When we bought this house we brought our 3 flatmates with us. There were 5 adults in this house
We had not bought any new stuff though, so it sort of didn't matter that much what they did as long as they paid their rent. We kicked the all out once I got pregnant, filled the house with kids instead
