god, dammit, i LOVE nyc! my fabulous night last night at the premiere of "this film is not yet rated"

first, we get there, and they escort us to seats in the first few rows, sitting with nadine, the president of the ACLU, and as i found out in the panel afterwards, one of the most powerful lawyers in america, as named by several publications. she is my roommate's boss and mentor, so i was kind of nervous about meeting her, or saying something stupid, btu the woman could not have been more charming or more fun! totally sweet woman.

so, after the film, which is really good by the way, they have a panel of the director of the film, owen glieberman a critic from entertainment weekly, mary harron the director of "american psycho" "the notorious betty page" and "i shot andy warhol" amongst other things, and michael tucker one of the directors interviewed in the film.

after the panel, they have a fabulous reception, and i talked with mary harron, who's films i adored for about 15 minutes. i think i kinda freaked her out a little, cause i told her (and it's true) that "i shot andy warhol" was one of the defining films of my late teenage into adulthood transition. i used to watch it a lot. i also asked her about a specific shot from "american psycho" that is in the european version of the film, but not in the american, even in the uncut directors cut that came out on dvd last year. she was kind of suprised, and said "wow, you REALLY know my films, don't you?"

so then i spent a half-hour chatting with nadine, who was just heavenly. so engaging and lovely.

and on my way out, i started talking to owen glieberman, whos critiques of movies are pretty mcuh what i base wether i go to the theater and see a movie or not on. he was kind of stand-offish at first, till he realized i wasn't bullshitting when i said i read his reviews religiously, cause i amazed him by quoting posrtions of his review of "little miss sunshine" which he didnt really like, and i loved. then his face lit up and we spent almost an hour talking about films and our opinions of them.

granted, i didn't get to see MERYL STREEP live, like i was goign to, but it was still a magic magic night for this liberal film geek.
