i agree, though after five years working in the industry in this city, i know i have more to give than most firms are getting...and i know they're not getting much at ALL that's willing to work graveyard shifts.

at the new job i'd get bonuses. i don't get those where i am now. at the new job i'd have a shorter work week, which i would assume would make a significant difference if i'm working the wee hours. i seem to be going through a lot of transition this year anyway, so maybe it's a sign that i need to hit the refresh button all around, including my job. That is one way of looking at it. It sounds like a better job...just crappy hours. Christian Zombie Vampires

I feel you have already made your decision, and what your looking for is validation, not advice....now thats not an insult, just an observation. I do that, but Im really stubborn! Anyway, trust your instincts if you have made up your mind cause heres the thing - change is hardly ever bad even if it seems that way, its just scary. But its only scary because its unknown, you dont want to take the risk and lose everything. Where would we be if we didnt take risks?! Face your fear And hey, we'll all still be here to help you through

Catch? Said job is a graveyard shift position. I've done a graveyard shift before, and I swore I never would again. However, I was working longer hours than this job offers, and I will be making more money. There's also the possibility of them moving me to days if such a position opens up. Plus, I'm fed up with where I am. But what if this new gig isn't much better? Part of me wants to take the new gig, and if it makes me miserable, it'll be motivation to find something better. Another part of me would rather stick out more time where I am and know my misery, than to throw myself into new situations where I don't know if it could be even worse. QUANDARY! What Would Org Do? I find that,
for decisions like this, moving towards what you fear the most ( or at least moving away from that which is comfortable), is usually the best way to go.

I hated working that shift. At this point in my life, a return to that shif would be out of the queston. But it had perks:
* It's easier for good work to be recognized. * the pay's usually better. * in a cutthroat industry, nightside folks enjoy a bit more security and stability. * It's easy to make interview appointments for other work, when it's time to move on -- because you don't have to worry about schedule conflicts. It might not be bad for a temporary period, enough time for you to figure out how you want your life to look, as you watch the dust settle. [Edited 8/30/06 14:38pm]

Though the higher pay is an incentive to work the late shift. i've never had my pay cut when i've moved from late shifts to day shifts. I did in order to get the job I'm currently at. IBM worked like that, too. [Edited 8/30/06 14:46pm]

Graveyard shifts, i've found, contain less assholes. Maybe the assholes think their shit only smells like roses in the day light, I don't know, but I do know there's less assholes to deal with. Also there's less people. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.

Take it. If you don't like it, it'll shake you up, as you say, and motivate you.
In the meantime, you can be saving that extra money, and use it to take some time off if you need it. Good luck. BTW, what's the job? oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

Well, the quandary kinda solved itself...I called the headhunters who offered me this position, and after taking a bunch of stupid tests and passing with flying colors and doing an intake interview and blah blah, the job got filled. Ah well, tra la la. The headhunters said they were gonna keep looking for stuff for me. Meanwhile, my job is like my own personal Gilligan's Island. I always seem to come just this close >< from getting off the island.
