As you get older....

....Do you find it harder to cry? i've noticed that with me. and just the other day a supervisor higher up (way up) posed that question to me. she was going through alot of stress i could tell. the last half of 2005 and the first half of 2006 has really been hard for me. I've had to ask for help for things that i feel i should do on my own. i hate it. things come in threes or clusters whether good or bad i've noticed. one after another, i gather up the bad and tuck it away and keep moving. if i stop to think about what i've lost, could stand to lose, or what the consequences of standing up and making a choice is making me sacrifice-i might lose it. When i was younger little things, little problems would put me in tears. and now the problems i have as an adult have yet to move me like that. i wish i had those problems instead of the ones i do now. why is that?

hug all i can really say is that's how life is
as you begin to shape your frame of mind - which is always changing - you react to life differently than u might've a year before..

We get stretched, as we age. Since I turned 21, I've lost two friends to suicide, others to terminal illness; i've seen relationships end; lost relatives unexpectedly; and discovered the pains and crises of many loved ones.

The ability to empathize with others' loss has provided me with perspective on my own pain. Consequently, I'm less likely to cry nowadays over something in my life that saddens me.

that could be it for me although i'm not sure. i can feel it-like i should be crying. ive even tried to just 'let it all out', cause i don't want the stress to build up-but nothing.

yes. I find it's harder to feel anything like I used too.
In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

Although this curious side-effect would no doubt encourage many to take up the habit, I don't believe there's an ameoba's ball hair of possibilty that this is true. Leonard Cohen smokes. And so do I. smile

it is so incredibly true.

ask any ex-smoker how much wider their range of emotion is post-smoking.

leonard cohen exhibits one primary emotion, which is the bane of so many smokers and you even feel bonded to it yourself apparently: sadness.

sorry, but it's completely true; no matter how many times i have the odd crafty smoke myself and yet still have the nerve to call myself a non-smoker, i KNOW that smoking is a depressant and times when i haven't smoked have always been much happier.

also, ever wonder why so many smokers are atheists? well, they are. and there's a reason for that.

great. wow. two famous figures. i'm not even sure dylan smokes anymore; in fact i'm pretty sure he doesn't.

in any case, the evidence is stacked against you. among all the other harmful shit, nicotine actually changes brain chemistry over time, probably forever. so of course you're gonna defend it.

i'm not intending to be an arsehole tho, just saying that if you believe that nicotine DOESN'T stifle the emotions.... then i'm sorry, but i need to laugh. it's the main reason most smokers smoke... it's in place of what you'd REALLY be feeling. but i know that's a difficult thing to come to terms with; i'm still dealing with it obviously as i weaken and smoke every now and then.

but i'm well aware of my own hyprocrisy. at least, i can cry about it if i need to.

shrug

It's because the brain cells related to anxiety stop replicating and begin to die off in remearkable numbers in your late 20's/early 30's. Uou're pretty much a robot - that is, recycling old brainwaves, emotions and thoughts - from your 40's onwards, apparently. Fucking marvellous, darling. Fancy another wee bevvy? drink Oh, have a fag too. smoker

For me, it's not harder to cry.

But there's certain situations that I don't cry about anymore that used to make me cry. Like that Stones song, Outta tears. Theres like only so much crying you can do about one particular thing yanno?

But I still cry.

i've never really cried a lot. sometimes during a really mushy movie i can get a little weepy. oddly enough, things in real life don't get the waterworks going as much.
