Nervous Breakdowns at Work

My team lead just had a nervous breakdown and they're letting her leave work for a few days. eek

Withought getting into too many details I'm a Project Manager for IT projects for a major bank. We constantly have to deal with major project stakeholders (execs, the CEO, etc.) and part of our interactions involve deals, handshakes, and heated negotiations. Basically, you have to look at some big wig in the eye and explain to him why he has to follow the process and how much time it will take when he does so--then you have to explain to him why you're going to charge him 100k for something he wants delivered to his computer--among overseeing your resource's work, etc. It's very stressful, and often thankless.

Well, she's a "yes" person. I've never seen her go into a negotiation without leaving it with a parking-lot sheet filled with todo's. It's got me thinking.

We do that in real life too.
Some people are "yes" people and some are "no". Some pick and choose. But I've never seen a "yes" person who attained a position of authority where all hell didn't break loose. Things are a mess.

Have you ever witness a nervous breakdown at work?
Becuase of her I might have to fly out to friggen Columbus Ohio to Interview for filling in for a few weeks--they like me cuase I'm an asshole. rolleyes

I've had a breakdown because of work, but not actually at the workplace.

I don't want her job actually. Most of my colleagues are fuckups and escalations get to her daily that she resolves or negotiates (basially saying "yes" to the clients and various lines of business). I wouldn't do that. I'd address the issue with my peers, then I'd be firmer with the LOBS. Except for government mandated changes, there's no reason to rush a project encuring additional risk.

THe problem is that my peers would quickly turn on my during my 360s. lol

Corporate America is washed in bullshit.

I had many a breakdown at school. I did NOT like school. Bad time for me and having to go to school and deal with teachers who saw no further than their own goals for me geek , and two faced little prom queen types was just way too much :shudder:

Sometimes I love you dude. lol

Actually, I'm thinking of moving beyond IT and corporate America. I don't think people should be working in cubes, flying from city to city, and sitting in front of computers all day. It's bad for the soul.

falloff that's aweful

Managers dare not yell at us. H.R. slams people for bad behavior.
The only people allowed to yell are basically the execs. And they're so overpayed, they don't have much reason to. lol

hmmm I would have just ignored you then. You would have known I wasnt impressed with your behaviour and avoided me so as to also avoid a smack in the face. Which I was liable to do!

I can deal with you people now, strong woman that I am! mr.green

I found that the girls who weren't popular like the prom queens only needed to "put out" and that evenned out the equation a bit. nod

that's a complete falsification of my character and i don't appreciate it!

Columbus Ohio is kinda fun actually, especially along High Street. Stop in Union Station in the afternoon for lunch, it's a blast there.

Practially everyone I work with are hypochondriacs. We had one lady last year have a "nervous breakdown". She's on a million different prescription drugs, her desk looks like a pharmacy. Anyhow I think it was all an act to get herself some extra paid vacation days. Everytime she wants a day off work and another prescription refill, she gets another tooth worked on. My boss is always whining that he's "weak" which usually means he's hungover and doesn't want to come into work, which he usually strolls in about 2pm if he feels like it. Another worker insists he can't type because of carpal tunnel, now he cant talk either because he has a throat virus, and he's taken 3 days off for tendonitis in his foot. It's beyond ridiculous.

I work with 2 ladies that are kinda nuts. I love them but Lawd!!! One of them is a Clerk. She is an obsessive recycler/collector/pack rat. She has so much garbage under her desk it's crazy. Her assistant is a germaphobe to the nth degree. She scrubs down her desk for 45 minutes before she even touches her keyboard. When she leaves for lunch she wears gloves because she takes the stairs and has to use the handrail. She is constantly scrubbing her hands with moist towelettes. Almost every hour on the hour.
