At what age is someone too old to have their 1st child?

What are your thoughts on when someone is too old to have their first child?

Is 35 too old?

You're joking, right?

Madonna - first child at 37 years old.
Cheryl Tiegs - first child at 42 years old
Linda Evangelista - currently pregnant, first child will be at 41 years old.

As long as you take care of your body (exercise - cardio, strength, stretching) and eat properly, your body will sustain itself to carry life.

If you don't want to carry a child, go through invitro ($10,000), where you will have to give yourself injections for one month to mass produce eggs. You will produce around 48 eggs. 20-28 eggs would be perfect to fertilize, while the other eggs would be considered too young or too old. Find some compatible sperm (whomever you think is good enough to share DNA with your DNA). The eggs and sperm will be fertilized in a petri dish and 4 or 6 will be inserted into your surrogate carrier ($20,000). Nine months later, viola, you will have 2 - 6 children.

Isn't science amazing!

any age is okay as long as that's what you want, I guess.
I don't want my kid to have to change my diapers, though, y'know?

Yes- I have thought of adoption actually...
I have certain things that I need in my life before I add a child to the mix..

I never thought I wanted any- I had 2 step kids when I was 22 yrs and I hated that.
I may never have any myself but I have stopped saying never like I used to. I guess we will see what happens.

The age isn't and exact science.

The good rule of thumb is 36, but that can be pushed upto 38. So no, I'd say 35 isn't too old, but it's pushing it.

step kids are different. they usually hate you for a long while first whereas biological kids don't hate you for at least 15-16 years. wink

In regards to your question, you should probably talk to your doctor about it. I have heard of certain tests that they can run to see how many fertile eggs you have left, if you're going into early menopause, etc. that can help you with your decision.

Good Luck!

Other factors need be assumed other then the mother's health. Yes for sure the mom's health should be number one, but if the question isn't in the health, how about the well being of the child? Psychologically as well.
