I think I would be too old for a club now but I do enjoy seeing concerts especially in smaller venues.

I guess I can understand what everyone is complaining about. Except I just say that I don't go to clubs like that. lol Music is the number one priority for me if I'm going out and if it's bad, I won't go. If the crowd is one I don't wanna deal with, I don't go. There are only a couple of clubs in Mpls I will go to right now, and only one of them is a 'straight' club. These days, I only go out once a month or so, though over the last few months its been a little more frequent. But clubbing was probably my number one hobby thoughout my early 20's. Going out several nights a week, creating new outfits each time I went out, talking to just about everyone I could talk to, dancing, dancing, dancing.. It was FUN! But only in the 'right' clubs.

it was soooo much easier back then wasn't it??? almost as if you could have a personality AND be friendly at the same time. it was much more of a colorful and encouraging atmosphere than these cookie cutter clubs the younger folks frequent nowadays
cool

That's another thing. The people I was around at those clubs were snobby and acted like their shit didn't stink. A MAJOR turnoff right off the bat for me.

That's so retarded. The whole point of going out to clubs when I was young was to SOCIALIZE and be ENGAGING. I think there probably was a delusional smugness at large commercialized clubs, but the smaller, hipper scene with the REAL inside track to all that was cool and au courant was actually the most RELAXED place to be...I'm telling you, locals, starlets, and royalty partied right next to each other with a laid back attitude and not a care in the world...and we bought each other drinks and shared our cigarettes together to boot lol

Went to clubs/discos when I was younger. Most fun places were in Germany and France. Can't stay up that late and be entertaining anymore. Occasionally have parties at the house with middle eastern food and bellydancers.

If there is something like that here in NYC, then I might consider it but right now, it's not likely.

I used to dig clubs a lot until about 2 years ago. Thats when I started looking like the guy that was too old to be at the club, not quite old enough to be old, but too old to be hanging out with a younger set of club whores. I prefer bars and pubs, that way you know most of the people there are in their twenties. Some of these clubs out here in L.A. would be letting in high school girls with their fake I.D.'s who had a 21 year olds body, but in the face it was obvious that they were still kids!

I love watching live bands so I'll go to the club if its a band I want to see, other than that I go to Pubs that always have bands and its like a house party cause you know almost everyone there. I like having house parties too, I know alot of bands and we usually have big parties at different peoples places where the band can set up etc or we just get one of the DJs in the group to take charge of the music smile

I love to dance

I've lost the appeal for clubbing.
When I was in my 20's I did a few clubs. When I say "few" I mean I've only been to 3 or 4 clubs in my life.
But they were usually so crowded and expensive that I didn't really enjoy myself.

The only clubs that i can say that i go to are latin dance clubs. I love it there because people are there to dance, not to drink and not to fuck, but to dance. I always have a blast.

Sometimes there are snobby people there who are all about themselves and their egos and sometimes there's one or two drunk jerks but the majority of the people there are cool and there to have a good time.

yeah, i'm a social dance geek. lol

Last night, we went to a Mexican dance club which played Mariachi music all night. We are right in the middle of the Suburbs, and I was curious to see what kind of crowd this nightclub attracted. For some reason I just couldn't see a whole lot of Mexicans in middle suburbia...Man, was I wrong! I walked into a club full of Cowboy hats and a whole lotta dancing.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Clubs bore me...I never have, and never will be a "club person". They rarely play music that I really like, they're overcrowded, you gotta practically crawl inside someone's skull just to be able to talk to them, and the idea of going there to hook up with someone just bounces off me like a ping pong ball off a concrete wall... confused

i dont go because it's never been like me to go..
i find more enjoyment in spending a night at a nice somewhat crowded but quiet art gallery...good conversation
or i'd rather see a live show..

the clubs are nice, but the motivation of most/all the people that go are to get drunk and get fucked...and that's not me @ all...
shrug all my friends go and they try to drag me out...but i really feel self conscious when i go because i dont show off much, i dont show too much skin, and when i do i feel like im not Sammi anymore giggle

it's boring... i unno, i love to dance, but why not dance at a live show? or just DANCE?

It's just not for me, I don't like to dance and I don't really drink, plus it's all a big meat market... just not for me.If I'm going to be packed into aplace like that I'd rather there be live music not a dj.
In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

i had one of my meanest moments when i was about 21/22 at a bar

some older guy was trying to pick up my friend
i went over and said "dude! i can see the mark on your finger from your wedding band! what are you trying to do? pick up the girl to make you feel youthful? well stop it! it's not working! it just makes you look like an idiot. go home to your wife!"

now, he very may well have been a cheater. but now that i am older i realize he was more likely newly divorced or separated and trying to get back into the social scene

boxed i probably crushed any self esteem he had left

Okay,
None of y'all are gettin it....
The primary purpose for clubs is
to get easy access to drugs & sex.

And c'mon....
what's wrong with that?

i used to go a lot when i lived in new york, but not so much now that i live in chicago. why? i don't like the music they play in clubs here...at least not in the gay clubs. berlin nightclub plays good stuff (even when it's not prince night razz ), but that's about it. i got spoiled in new york - dancing to glam rock and industrial and all the crazy shit they'd spin at squeezebox really raised my standards for what a good club should be. meanwhile, i can't get with that hi-NRG munchkin music they play at the gay clubs here. barf

It's just the opposite for me...I used to go to all the (straight) clubs when I lived in Chicago (except Crobar, which I still regret not making it to). I could get on the lists at most places so I rarely had to wait in line or pay cover & sometimes we could get drink specials too. thumbs up! I would mostly go with my (then) boyfriend. I suppose if I had been going as a single girl getting hit on by lame guys I may not have enjoyed it as much. Also, if I hadn't had a boyfriend, I probably wouldn't have gone as much b/c my girl friends in Chicago didn't like to dance so getting them to go clubbing was like pulling teeth...

Sadly, I haven't been to a bonafide club since moving to New York--the scene here is too hard to break into (I don't know the right people) and honestly, I can't afford it here. If I could, I'd definitely be out at the clubs...I hate going to pubs and/or listening to live bands, it bores me. I'd much rather hear a DJ spin. I'm on a couple DJ mailing lists here--but b/c they mostly spin at 'lounges' it's just not the same as in Chicago...it's usually way too crowded.

i got that out of my system 15 years ago. it was a really magical time in miami beach before it became commercialized and over-exposed. i was really lucky to have been part of the scene there when it was underground, full of quirky creative types with the largest imaginations. this was the time when most of the hotels on ocean drive were still retirement communities. the fashion industry was just taking foot and had only french and germans at the helm. the nightlife was fueled by new york city transplants left over from the studio 54 crowd or internationals who frequented regine's. they created an atmosphere that was heady, decadent, and stimulating to all your senses-taste, touch, smell, sight, sound. it was unmonitored (liquor licscenses? permits?) and equal opprortunity. you only needed to be open minded and have a zest for living, drinking, dancing, creativity. no velvet ropes. no celebrity squawking. no people stalking. you could be in a club that was set up just for the night in the ballroom of a run down art deco hotel, where they got the furniture the day before from an area thrift store. someone would tap you on the shoulder to light their cigarette from yours and it would be maybe princess chantal of greece or prince albert of monaco. u could share a cab with wesley snipes, or say hi to micheal stipe when he ventured into the club wearing nothing but a beach towel, swim trunks, and flip flops 'cause he just never quite managed to make it back to change after being at the beach all day. the club scene was uninhibited and outrageous, but everyone had a great attitude. i remember people used to show up in "ensembles", rather than whatever the latest designer look was. you or any celebrity could show up in a thrift store evening gown or your pajamas if you wanted to and no one cared, as long as it had some "oomph" to it. people were allowed to bring shoulder animals into the clubs and bars- i remember there was an organ grinder monkey that was a practical regular on the scene...and then there was this tiny south american who was the world's smallest man, practically the size of a toddler- people just used to pass him around on their hips and take turns dancing with him, he always wore these bright polyester suits and tuxes from the kids shops in little havanna and buster brown baby shoes. it was all so pleasantly bizarre it often felt like a cross between scenes from a fellini and david lynch film,..i managed to stay away from the drug use part of the scene, but i know it was there...and the sexual aspect? goodness, there was sex EVERYWHERE...but people were at least safe and took "precautions" because were watching people drop like flies from AIDs from what they did the decade before...but it still didn't, at least, keep you from dancing topless on the dance floor if you felt the urge, or watching nude voguing, or cheering while linda e. and christy t. groped & french kissed each other on a nightclub swing in the middle of the warsaw ballroom...yes, those were heady days indeed. glad i was there to see it. . i think i've seen everything i could possibly "see" then, and that era will never be duplicated. besides, i have no interest in the nightlife anymore at any rate...

...now i just go to live music venues for concerts when i want to go out. cool

don't go clubbing a lot anymore, I do check agenda's so I know that I have to go when favorite dj's come. DJ's I've been to recently:

* Tiefschwarz (Ali & Basti Schwarz, Germany, awesome!)
* Jazzanova (various DJ's from the Sonar Kollektiv, Berlin, Germany)
* Erick E (dutch DJ, progressive)
* Rainer Truby (Truby Trio, Freiburg, Germany)
* Roger Sanchez (Mallorca, Spain)
* David Guetta (France)

Would love to go to Kruder & Dorfmeister again (Vienna, Austria). Saw them a couple of years ago, but they're so god-damn lazy, they hardly tour or produce.
