I watched part 1 last night. I was tired but I stayed up and finished the whole thing anyway. The whole Katrina event really pulled back the curtains in this country. It revealed all of the skeletons in our own closet as a nation and its something that we all have a role in fixing, if we choose to. Its a very powerful and emotional doc.

I watched part 1 and cried almost the whole time. The only time I wasn't crying was when I was mad as hell.

The Government shitted on the Black Folks of New Orleans. They did it twice before? I know y'all caught that shit about them Dynamite-ing the levees in 65 and once before also.... And the lady and others who were saying they heard explosions prior to the water rushing in.

one of my aunts that evacuated before the storm told her son she didn't want to stay there during the hurricane because she didn't want to be sitting up on top of the house like she was when they blew up the levees in 69. My cousin told her that wasn't true and they wouldn't do that.

she's sitting in alabama now saying um hm they did it again.

we thought she was just old and deluded, now I don't know.

Hard to watch but a mandatory view.

What struck me (beyond documentary's focus on the Hurricane Katrina situation) was that if there's a local/national disaster or even if a large section of the population decides to "wild-out" (i.e. post-Rodney King verdict here in L.A.), you'd better be prepared to take care of yourself for an extended period of time.


Sad to say, but when it comes to immediate government assistance in times of crisis...

It's not like beachfront property here in L.A., I have fam in the deepest parts of La. and it's a lot of swamp. What would the govt gain by displacing Blacks, and more importantly why at THAT point?
