Part of my job involves dispatching for police - its quite amazing what people will call the police for!

YES - people will call police to look up phone numbers or addresses of people for them (it's not a 911 dispatch, so they actually have to dial more numbers to call us rather than than "0" or "411" for the telephone operator.

YES - people do not know what the number for 911 emergency is.

YES - people will call for advice/general information about things. ie - where is the car show this weekend, what temperature to set the oven at for cooking their dinner.

A couple of calls that made me smile just this past week included:

- there is a peacock in my yard
- my son's girlfriend is cheating on him and her lover is at her house right now (expecting police to arrest the lover)
- my dog got sprayed by a skunk
- my neighbour's yardlight is on and i can't sleep because of it.
- the local police in a caller's jurisdiction didn't consider his call a priority, so he was wondering if the officers in (our) jurisdiction would drive over to attend to it faster.

So much fun! The list just goes on and on...
