I'm still not sure what to make of it, really... from what I can tell Bleudowedd is a maiden figure which is pretty right because I don't feel like a woman at all or like an adult. Urania seems to be regarded with astronomy and the stars and even travel - would that be right? those things are VERY much me if that's right

hmmm

I couldn't find anything about Tara, But I did find some info about Inanna. She sounds pretty cool and her Descent into the Underworld seems to be where the Dance of the Seven Veils originated. hmmm

It's so interesting to see how all these faiths interconnect.

Thank you, Mach. hug

Good point. Cultural appropriation (taking bits and pieces of other cultures without a true understanding of where it came from) is so rampant in American society. I try not to have artifacts/art/etc from cultures that I or my family are not personally connected to. Some folks are offended by it.

i dont understand why people would be, but it happens. i used to collect a lot of "black" art, and it drove people crazy. would blow their minds to walk into a white mans home and see almost exclusively paintings of black people.

i just dont get it

and the comment i would hear most is "but you're not black"

makes no sense to me. if you like someting, like something. so what? i mean, yes, know what the meaning behind what you are liking is, but...

Then it's a personal decision to make. In my case, I do a lot of work in social justice and anti-oppression movements. Many of my friends who are people of color/populations which are traditionally oppressed by white people have shared their feelings with me on this. Some have stated that it feels like an extension of oppression: a white person is free to pick and choose bits of different cultures to use as "decoration" while still enjoying all the privileges, freedoms and comforts of being white in America. So for me, since I know that it can be psychologically or emotionally harmful to guests in my home, I try not to do it.

On the other hand, I did mention that my daughter has chosen images of Durga to protect her and we are neither Indian nor Hindu. So there's your grain of salt... wink

would she be the counterpart to the Greek Persephone?

I'm not very familiar with the Wiccan Gods and Goddesses but I am pretty familiar with the Greek ones.

I would probably be Athena, the goddess of wisdom, weaving, crafts, and war. I don't have tons of wisdom yet but I'm pretty good at the weaving, crafts, war.

Maybe I'd be Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. It's not a side that I show very much on the org. confused

Do either of them have Wiccan counterparts? Who do you think I would be, Mach?

i have no clue either. i don't know anything about wiccan god/goddesses. in greek mythology i always thought i identified with Athena shrug

Ok wait... Do Wiccans have ANY unique gods/goddesses of their own? i don't think they do. I mean Wicca is a pretty young faith as faiths go and pretty much all the Wiccans I know (and the books I've read) are appropriating their gods from other faiths (especially Celtic ones, it seems) and incorporating them into their own belief system. That's fine but Wicca isn't a suitable umbrella term to house all pagan faiths. This isn't a judgement on Wicca, it's just what I know of it.

So, I can't pick any Wiccan deities because I know of none.

To be truthful, I'm not sure who I'd like to be among general pagan gods, either. However, considering I do have Celtic ancestry, I sure would like to MEET Brighid, though. smile
