My Daughter Wanted Me To Buy Her A $174 Pair Of Jeans...(Now With Photos)

And they were on sale!!!...lol lol

I get a text message the other day from my daughter:

Her: Will u give me $174 for jeans?
Me: How many pairs of jeans are you buying?
Her: One

I called her after that...lol... eek

As I'm laughing and saying "That is insane!" over and over to her, she says "And they're on sale, dad"...I ask her how much they USUALLY cost...she says "About $270"...wtf?!?! I said that her first name would have to be "Christina" and her last name "Aguilera" in order for her to be wearing $174 jeans...she laughed...lol...I asked her to describe them to me, to tell me what makes them worth so much in her eyes, what she likes about them...said something about different color stitching in the pockets and a "U" on the pockets...I dunno...I just kept freaking out...lol

I'm taking her shopping later this week...ain't buyin' her no damn $200 pair of jeans, though... disbelief

Have you ever bought your kids something that was ridiculously overpriced but thought "eh, what the hell" anyway? (other than for their birthday or Xmas)...

*Edit: ok, here are a shot of the brand of jeans she's wanting (not sure of the style yet)...

I would not get a teenager expensive anything. That's silly.

For myself the most I've spent on jeans is about 100 bucks (or a bit more). It really does make a difference what an expensive pair of jeans can look like on you. YOur ass sometimes looks 10 times better in an expensive jean as opposed to something you can get on the rack at Sears.

Get the damn jeans, for your daughter, seriously. She may NEVER be able to buy nice jeans like that when she gets older, and if your ABLE to get them, just DO IT! It could be her hole high school rep on the line. nod

I try not to spoil my 13yr old son, but most of the time I do get him the things that I never had as a kid. Whether it's the latest in thing or just the latest clothes, XBOX, Playstation, iPod, etc. But I think that there is a limit too. I have a job and I don't own a pair of $174 jeans so I know damn well he won't unless the jeans can get up and put themselves on my son! wink

What I offer my daughters..is that they can do chores and earn an allowance. If they then want to spend the money on a pair of $174 jeans, they have my blessing.
I believe in teaching the value of money, and spending it on something important, something of quality, not just a fad. I do not keep them from spending it on little things if they chose to, but the high ticket items is their reward for working hard

isn't it about teaching kids a lesson in values?

that $174 can feed Sally Struthers for a day

Material things don't really have anything to do with values.

You can still teach your children values without making them go without simply because others do not have as much as they do.

The only time I see spending a lot of money on your kids being a problem is if you are teaching them that material things are what makes them who they are and the other would be if you are living beyond your means.

If you buy a pair of $20 jeans it basically because you need some jeans. If you buy a pair of $174 jeans, it's usually for an entirely different reason. It's those "different reasons" that make you hesitate and/or say "no" as a parent...not your account balance.

Way to go Byron clapping

Unless I was mega-rich, I would never spend that kind of money on a pair of jeans for a kid that's barely a teenager. You have common sense which is good to see because so many people lack it these days. When she gets a job and can buy them herself, she will appreciate them all the more.

Very true, why would she need a pair of jeans that expensive, at her age she's grown out of 'em in a few weeks.
Try and find her some less expensive ones that make her feel totaly comforable, that should be possible shouldn't it. smile
