RANT about Television

ok so my mother is a tv fanatic...she has two satellite's running in the house...
the crappy one, that everyone in the house can see, and the somewhat not so much crappy one that can only be viewed in the living room...

i've been looking for stuff to watch on BOTH systems since 9 oclock this evening...it's now 1 and i FINALLY found something INTELLIGENT to watch... The history channel has some Egyptian History shows on until 4am... drool

why isn't TV smart anymore? why are people so hungry for entertainment? why can't educational shows be seen as entertaining? am i the only one that finds them so?

AND ANOTHER THING: so they reinact certain stories from ancient Egyptian times...but WHY can't they find people that look even remotely EGYPTIAN?!?! i KNOW i saw a chinese guy playing a scribe in one scene... lol
this is outrageous...

it actually makes me sick to see how cheap and inaccurate and boring TV has become today... disbelief

the information is amazing but damn...it took me HOURS to find something GOOD to watch ammong a combined 2000 channels... omg WTF?!

ok, rant over.

Contribute, i say.

watching too much TV makes me feel fat, ugly, and unloved. I try to avoid most Tv except for Prince's television performances and Law and Order, the original, of course.

sigh i hate that shit. If you study a region and the cultures that exist within it, you should be a little less biased about it, especially when sharing those views with others who are seeking to learn.

I've had a few teachers who used to go on little political rants all out of the blue or talk down certain religions. pissed so not right.

exactly...
i myself, am not religious, spiritual yes, and maybe that's where it's easier for me to understand and look past the flamboyant rituals and religions of some cultures...

but when looking into such things, you need to look past your own beliefs and just LEARN as if u would learn to speak a new language or math...

these two Egyptologists and Bible Pros or whatever have just made themselves look extremely bad...
one comparing the book of the dead to a video game while the other accusing the priests of the time of scamming others and turning the production of the books of the dead into trends and must haves... disbelief
if we dont know, and we don't have the means to find out, why can't we be satisfied with letting it be unsolved?!
pissed

Good point. I wonder, did they compare the Egyptian priests who supposedly turned the Book of the Dead into a trend to the WWJD bracelets, Kabbalah water, and "virginity rings" that are all the rage nowadays?

lol they didn't end up getting that far, but as much as they studied the culture, they still had their own opinions about it that were shining thru each conversation disbelief
guess people who have PhD behind their name aren't really all that smart after all...

it's cool that they had their own opinions but it's not cool when the opinions expressed are biased and belitttling. confused sometimes a PhD ends up standing for "Pompus haughty Dickhead" when it's behind the name of the wrong person.

I admire all the work that goes into obtaining a PhD but sometimes it can cause the person to lose sight of their own humility. confused It's sad that being educated is such a class thing and allows some people to feel superior to others.

Okay, now my rant is done. lol

Here's another poem I like but haven't read in way too many years. Maybe those Egyptologists should read it. giggle

Sailing To Byzantium
by William Butler Yeats.

I
That is no country for old men. The young
In one another's arms, birds in the trees
--Those dying generations--at their song,
The salmon-falls, the mackerel-crowded seas,
Fish, flesh, or fowl commend all summer long
Whatever is begotten, born, and dies.
Caught in that sensual music all neglect
Monuments of unaging intellect.

II
An aged man is but a paltry thing,
A tattered coat upon a stick, unless
Soul clap its hands and sing, and louder sing
For every tatter in its mortal dress,
Nor is there singing school but studying
Monuments of its own magnificence;
And therefore I have sailed the seas and come
To the holy city of Byzantium.

III
O sages standing in God's holy fire
As in the gold mosaic of a wall,
Come from the holy fire, perne in a gyre,
And be the singing-masters of my soul.
Consume my heart away; sick with desire
And fastened to a dying animal
It knows not what it is; and gather me
Into the artifice of eternity.

IV
Once out of nature I shall never take
My bodily form from any natural thing,
But such a form as Grecian goldsmiths make
Of hammered gold and gold enamelling
To keep a drowsy Emperor awake;
Or set upon a golden bough to sing
To lords and ladies of Byzantium
Of what is past, or passing, or to come.

I like that show. I like several shows but I'm not a fan of any of them to the point where I schedule stuff around them or freak out when I miss an episode.

there was another show on afterwards that i didnt get to stay up to see, called Strange Egypt orsomething...talking about sex in the afterlife... shrug from what i got out of it, it was just another bunch of people who know nothing about the culture besides what they've read in books basically laughing @ the rituals and beliefs told of the ancient times...
