RANT about Television ok so my mother is a tv fanatic...she has two satellite's running in the house...
the crappy one, that everyone in the house can see, and the somewhat not so much crappy one that can only be viewed in the living room... i've been looking for stuff to watch on BOTH systems since 9 oclock this evening...it's now 1 and i FINALLY found something INTELLIGENT to watch... The history channel has some Egyptian History shows on until 4am... why isn't TV smart anymore? why are people so hungry for entertainment? why can't educational shows be seen as entertaining? am i the only one that finds them so? AND ANOTHER THING: so they reinact certain stories from ancient Egyptian times...but WHY can't they find people that look even remotely EGYPTIAN?!?! i KNOW i saw a chinese guy playing a scribe in one scene... this is outrageous... it actually makes me sick to see how cheap and inaccurate and boring TV has become today... the information is amazing but damn...it took me HOURS to find something GOOD to watch ammong a combined 2000 channels... ok, rant over. Contribute, i say.

Here's one of my favorite poems. I hope this fits into your thread somehow.
This Is Just To Say by William Carlos Williams I have eaten the plums that were in the icebox and which you were probably saving for breakfast Forgive me they were delicious so sweet and so cold

Good point. I wonder, did they compare the Egyptian priests who supposedly turned the Book of the Dead into a trend to the WWJD bracelets, Kabbalah water, and "virginity rings" that are all the rage nowadays?

I admire all the work that goes into obtaining a PhD but sometimes it can cause the person to lose sight of their own humility. Okay, now my rant is done.

Here's another poem I like but haven't read in way too many years. Maybe those Egyptologists should read it. Sailing To Byzantium by William Butler Yeats. I That is no country for old men. The young In one another's arms, birds in the trees --Those dying generations--at their song, The salmon-falls, the mackerel-crowded seas, Fish, flesh, or fowl commend all summer long Whatever is begotten, born, and dies. Caught in that sensual music all neglect Monuments of unaging intellect. II An aged man is but a paltry thing, A tattered coat upon a stick, unless Soul clap its hands and sing, and louder sing For every tatter in its mortal dress, Nor is there singing school but studying Monuments of its own magnificence; And therefore I have sailed the seas and come To the holy city of Byzantium. III O sages standing in God's holy fire As in the gold mosaic of a wall, Come from the holy fire, perne in a gyre, And be the singing-masters of my soul. Consume my heart away; sick with desire And fastened to a dying animal It knows not what it is; and gather me Into the artifice of eternity. IV Once out of nature I shall never take My bodily form from any natural thing, But such a form as Grecian goldsmiths make Of hammered gold and gold enamelling To keep a drowsy Emperor awake; Or set upon a golden bough to sing To lords and ladies of Byzantium Of what is past, or passing, or to come.
