Don't you hate Know-it-alls??

I just started my new job today and it's VERY overwhelming. I'll be training for a few weeks, but it should be great. Anyway, there is this other girl who started yesterday and she and I will be doing some of the same work, so we have some training together. She thinks she's the shit because she has done some of the work before and she went to school for it mad She's all like, "If you have any questions about anything, feel free to ask".

I can tell she and I will be GREAT friends confused

i worked with this know-it-all who was the biggest pain in the ass. she could never ever be wrong!

if you expressed one opinion, she would automatically express the opposite opinion and argue it even after it was obvious she wasn't making any sense. pissed I think that she's still at my old job, too. hmmm

It's rooted in insecurity... their self-esteem would fall apart if they were wrong.

I'm a graphic designer, and nothing angers me more than people who can't draw a straight line with a ruler telling me my job. There are salespeople like that at my company. I've been doing this sh!t since I was a kid, and they're going to tell me about design, color & composition. I'm like, talk to the hand.

It seems to be common for a lot of graphic designer, it's my job as well. This is a very ungrateful job imo, since very few clients/salespeople know the work/abilities of what they ask for.

I have a friend who honestly thinks he's the smartest person in the world. He of course is not. One day I told him to figure out the surface area of a six inch diameter plate and he said he didn't know how to.

I rest my case. wink

I tend to be a know-it-all at work. But that's what I was hired for. No one else knew how to do it. The girl I had to work with had a really hard time with me at first, I think, but she wasn't afraid to tell me when I was pissing her off, so then I'd back down a bit and I softened her up with my silly humour and such and now she's my favorite person to work with. lol

Did you notice they often want you to change everything to finally want what you've done in the very first time ?

I read a lot of different books and magazines and therefore, do know a lot about a whole array of things, so I guess I'm a know-it-all. I find myself constantly saying in conversations..."well, I was just reading the other day..." I'm sure it bugs people. I try to be conscious of it and hold back.

Thats not being a know it all! Thats just knowing things. It depends how you use your knowledge, if you constantly belittle people with it and make out that you know more than them. It doesnt matter if you DO know more than them, it doesnt automatically make you a know it all.

Ive met people who've annoyed me by doing what you said, but at the core of it theyre just saying it to show off, the content isnt actually that relevant and it doesnt make much difference. Thats annoying!

For me, I just refure to back down! but its because I truly believe Im right, why would i argue if I didnt?! shrug

That's happened many times, and it's a pain in the a$$ because it's time consuming. Know-nothings think all we have to do is point and click. Coming up with a cool design, coloring and shading it takes hours, maybe days. Non-creative folks don't get it.

(sorry, I secretly wanted to be a math teacher. geek)

I give tours at a museum and I hate it when the general public starts arguing with me about the objects/art in the exhibtions; trying to play "stump the tour guide". I want to ask them if they think they know so fucking much then why the hell are they on my tour? mad

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
