A 55 yd field goal is difficult for the pros (the make average is well under 50%), so for someone to be able to do it in High School with no real experience is rare. I can understand why the Coach wants your son on the team. Just imagine if he gets a little experience under his belt. . I say you should strongly encourage him to at least try it. This may be a very good opportuinity for him. "Always blessings, never losses......"

Let's put it this way, a 55-yarder is tough in the pros. That he's able to do it at 17 is a wonderful, wonderful thing.
If your son keeps it up, stays healthy and stays consistent, he's GOLDEN. That's awesome news.

If he can kick that, and that's all they use him for, he's doing great!

I say you should strongly encourage him to at least try it. This may be a very good opportuinity for him. i'm gonnalet him tonight to see... the coach swore he wouldnt get tackled or hurt ... does that sound right to you ? he is a excellent soccer player and has schools looking at him for that already

The vast majority of the contact/tackling does not include the kickers. I would say he has much more of a chance getting hurt playing Soccer than being a Kicker in Football. YES he can help him get into college!
let him try and do it, no 55 is INCREDIBLE, but there is a lot of pressure on kickers, they are expected to perform perfectly EVERY TIME, so an off day, a bad snap, the wrong shoes, all these things may impact his performance but not considered when he misses that crucial field goal with 3 seconds left in the game, all they say is " well all he does is kick, if he can't make it then..." think about that pressure for your son Mach and tell him to think about it too. Now is just fun but college is a whole other story. from a mama. We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Maya Angelou

OK ...TY for that perspective he is used to pressure like that being the key stricker it is his job for penilty shots in soccer and he rarely misses

I had one as a child and it just closed up so depending on the size she shouldn't need any special treatment, but you need to find out how big it is.

ok, news about your son, that's great!! very cool. hope all works out.... though i am partial to .... so maybe that could help get him into college too? if not, american football would be a good scholarship, esp if little chance of him getting injured.
about jess, sorry to hear about it.... i'm sure things will be fine. hugs and love your way mach, take care and keep us posted.

First Round Drafts usually get 4-6-year contracts worth $16-25 million dollars. I use to play football as a teen and should have went out for the team. I could through the ball 40 yards on the standard high school football field when I was 14. To bad, I'm a girl.
