It's why everyone thinks I'm completely off my rocker around here and gives me so much shit for it. hehehe Do you have the DVD that came out in 2003? [Edited 8/21/06 7:22am] I did NOT know. I only have a very MILD obsession. No, I don't have it. Well, if you get the DVD that Jimmy Page took years to compile, you will have a bit more than a MILD obsession. That's what pushed me over the edge. It's a MUST HAVE for any rock fan. It's two discs of film/video footage of the band live from the very start ('68) until 1979. It really is mindblowing and the next best thing to actually having been there back in the day. Here are some clips from the DVD that ended up on YouTube. The quality is much better on the actual DVD of course, but here's a sample... Not enough hair, maybe? I like all the Clash's stuff, but London Calling is so far above the rest it's ridiculous. The punks might say that's when they sold out, but to me it's when they got creative. 20 songs, and they're all great, and all different, something you can't say about Nevermind the Bullocks. They're actually kind of like the Beatles, who started as punks, too. 2 lead singers (one is the real soul & leader, though), and nobody shines as an individual musician, they play really well as a unit. And rather than stay with what worked in the beginning, they grew and evolved, and then went back to basics (a different kind of basics than they began with) on Combat Rock. Cut the Crap doesn't deserve mention, so I'll leave it at that. My Legacy

I just don't like (it's Joe Strummer right?) the vocals on most of their songs for some reason. I'll give you that, that London Calling is a very diverse album though. But then, that's all I really know by them, is that album. I find it odd myself that I don't like them more than I do because I grew up listening to punk rock and being part of that whole scene in the States in the 80s. The Clash just sort of fell by the wayside for me though. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven | |

I love his singing, and I love that his songs are about something. I just watched the dvd "The Clash: Westway to the World" and even his way of speaking is passionate & engaging, something else he shared with John Lennon. My Legacy

I do like some of their songs though I suppose. One day maybe I'll grow to like them more. And yes, Zep II for me as well to the above post. Zeppelin I is also great, and II is just an extension of that. They were recorded within months of each other actually, but II was recorded on the road and so most of the more sexual songs (Whole Lotta Love, The Lemon Song ) although they were covers, were a direct result of their hedonistic experiences in L.A. and S.F. with the groupies and more specifically, the G.T.O.s, which really interests me. An all girl group that Frank Zappa put together in L.A. in the late 60s. Pamela Des Barres, the world's most famous groupie, was in it and she also wrote that tell-all book "I'm With the Band". She also "dated" Jimmy Page (among scores of other rock stars) which makes the book truly awesome IMO. Sorry for the pic overload. I just happened to find a bunch of these photos just now.
