1974 --- Rumble in the JUNGLE ... Ali/Foreman

last night on Classic Boxing .... i caught this fight .... i had forgotten HOW GOOD this fight is ....

for those of you who are not boxing fans ... at all ... it is probably the most artistic boxing match EVER ... just wild to watch ... and then when u hear about how it was set up ... the participants ... etc ...

after the classic match - ESPN - had a show on "why you cant blame George Foreman for losing " .... it was neat .... and brought back some of the things that were amazing about this match ...

Foreman at the time - was thought UNSTOPPABLE .... he had won a gold medal in 1968 or 69 i think ...he had knocked down the former champ Joe Frazier many times -in the first round i think !! .... and he had knocked out Ken Norten (who had beaten Ali i think ...) .... he hit hard ... someone who fought him said his punch felt like a railroad tie hitting you ... like the guy could swing a railroad tie !!! neutral

for those who have not seen it ... fascinating fight ... and just showed to me why Ali was "the greatest" ... was curious if anyone else caught this ... wink

ali was the greatest for many reasons...his ability to back his words up, his self promotion, his ability to move around the ring, and close out a fight.
he was not infallable, as ken norton broke ali's jaw, and frazier got the best of him in their first fight

i would like to catch the first frazier fight .... what was the name of that ... was it the second one that was "thrilla in manilla"???

one time- i caught an Ali biography-movie .... months ago ... and i was surprised by all this man did ...

but i was very surprised at the tempo of this fight from the first round .... u dont see that too often with the heavyweights ... especially today .... wink

Kenny Norton broke Ali's jaw. and beat ali, Ali came back only to whoop kenny norton's ass. ali whooped Smokin' Joe twice, he beat quarry twice.

Ali was the kinf og the "rope a dope" this was crazy because he could take a punch, he would get up on the rope and let the boxer hit him until he wore himself out and then, lights fuckin' out!!!!

whats funny .... now ... looking back on it .... is how good a match this is .... from 2 big guys ... the way ALi comes right out to meet him at the beginning ... and foreman is like .... bring it ...

did u see the commentary after the fight .. the way Ali was jawing him the whole time ... "is that all you got" ... etc .... at one point FOREMAN --- looking back on the fight ... says .... "there was a point ... around the middle of the 6th round ... where i hit Ali with a solid RIGHT eek .... i mean ... a really big blow .... and Ali said back "is that all u got " ... and i thought to myself .... "yeah ... thats pretty much it " ... lol

I think that is the fight that the documentary When We Were Kings is about.

If you have the chance to see that documentary I highly recommend it.

I also read a great biography on Ali--but I can't remember the name of it right now...
"Your presence and dry wit are appealing in a mysterious way."
