tragus piercing

i'm seriously considering getting one. Do any of you orgers have one? how was the aftercare, pain, etc. I did have my ear cartilage pierced once before but that was way high up on my ear where the cartilage is thinner. I eventually had to let it "close" because i didn't take care of it properly and got a keloid. confused

so, any advice? yay or nay on the tragus piercing?

I have my right one done. I used to have both but I lost the jewelry in the left and it closed up before I could replace it.
Of course, I had it done about 12 years ago and I had it done with a piercing gun. redface Not the way to do it. So I've no idea now how it would go. I remember it being mildly painful to sleep on for a few nights, but that's about all I remember. lol.

fear of getting a keloid is exactly why i'm afraid of getting a second ear piercing. I have a keloid on my chest from scratching a chicken pox when I was six...yet when my ears were pierced when I was 4, neither ear keloided...disbelief weird. Yet I have tattoo's on my back and none of them keloided.

so needless to say...tragus piercing has been far from my thoughts....

those dang keloids are hard to predict...and the doctor's don't seem to know that much about them neither. I personally think it has to do with the area of your body where you plan to get piercings/tattoos. Like knowing that I have a keloid on my chest, I would never get a tattoo on my chest or on my stomach, and not even on my arm....but since the tatts I have on my back didn't keloid, I wouldn't mind putting another tattoo on my back shoulder or on my legs/ankles, etc.

i ended up getting the keloid removed and it never came back. Of course, this was when I was 12 and was not responsible enough to handle such a piercing.

I also have my belly button done. Once, when I went to the piercer to changer my jewellery, she told me that I had keloid there and that I should treat it with saline solution. So I did and it went away. I also heard that tea tree oil works well, too. nod

hug no problem. If worst comes to worst, you can always get it surgicaly removed. Mine didn't leave a scar. nod

I know that is an option, but I went to a doctor once when I was a teenager and the doctor told me that getting the keloid on my chest removed would be possible but there would be a great chance that it could come back and worst. So I decided not to do that at that time because of what he said. I went to a dermatologist for something else and she saw my keloid and offered some steroid injection services for it in an effort to reduce it's appearance. So I did that and it doesn't look half as bad it originally did.

But i dunno shrug

yeah, when they removed my keloid they said that it migh grow back, too. I never heard of the steroid injections, though. That sounds interesting and I'm glad that it reduced the appearance. thumbs up!

When I got my nose done the guy was talking about piercings and advised against getting the tragus done, something about a nerve there if i recall correctly Or is it just fleshy like the lobe?. I really dont know, I guess it is safe, people do it but I'd look into any risks first.
Also dont let anybody use a piercing gun, always stick with a needle. He said a gun if not used properly can shatter the cartilage.

the tragus is cartilage. the dude who pierced you has no idea what the hell he was doing "advising" you against getting the tragus done, because that's a load of bullshit. some professional he is. rolleyes

Also dont let anybody use a piercing gun, always stick with a needle. He said a gun if not used properly can shatter the cartelige.

it won't shatter the cartilage (again--some professional that guy is lol), but it will prevent the piercing from healing properly if you have it done with a piercing gun.

I think he was just trying to scare the life out of me lol

The first time i had my nose done (with a gun) it wouldn't heal properly so I let it close up. I then got it done a couple of years later with a needle and had no problems with it, it healed very quickly.

btw, this is a tattoo parlour and a popular one as they are very clean. I'm not sure why he was so cautious, maybe he just wanted his customers to come back to him lol I would go back to him as he was good.

yeah, keloids can be an issue too. i haven't had trouble with keloids at all--i've got a tattoo on my back (a small one) and it healed up with no problem at all. same with my other 5 tattoos. my septum piercing's healed up well too--that'd suck ass if a keloid were to form inside my nostrils because of the piercing. eek

I don't know if you can get a keloid inside your nostril. I think those things only grow where there is pigmented skin and has something to do with the melanin. i think...

i'm definitely going to look into it some more before i get it done. i always have to think about things like this really carefully and probably won't get it done for another year or so lol if only i could be so cautious about love! giggle sigh

Anyway, if I do suddenly get a wind of spontaneity, there's a good piercing parlor here where I'm staying with my mom. They have a good selection of jewellery, too.

all this talk of piercing reminds me: yesterday i went over to saint sabrina's, where i got my nose pierced and most of my tattoos done. it's so funny when i go over there and i see a bunch of suburbanites sitting in the lobby, waiting to get tattooed or pierced. they always look kinda scared, plus they'll have a bunch of friends or their significant others there for support. giggle i'm thinking about getting my septum stretched up to at least a 10ga. the jewelry choices for the 12ga piercing i've got is kinda limited to CBRs and circular barbells, which kinda sucks.

those can be removed, it's no big deal.

I did just read a horror story about a girl who got her tragus pierced and then her ear canal closed up! omfg I think her piercing was done wrong, though.

falloff @ the suburbanites!

Ever since I've gotten my naval done I've wanted to get another piercing but could never decide on where. Since I'm becoming a vet, having a tongue, lip, eyebrow, or septum would get in the way of my getting hired anywhere and I would most likely be asked to remove it. However, I've worked with vets who have their tragus done and they have had no problems with their employers.

I also think it's a really beautiful piercing and perfect for me, especially since i love earings so much. lol

good luck getting your septum stretched,i heard it can be a bit painful. hug

that reminds me, my tragus is freaking huge compared to all the pictures that i see of them. it's not that i have big ears but for some reason my tragus is a very defined triangle of cartilage. weird.
