I just had a "lady" on the phone who rang me up to have a winge.
I answered the phone with Hello.....and she was off!!!! I couldn't get a word in and she was yelling.....so I hung up on her.
She then rang back. And told me that she was going to tell her friends. I told her I didn't believe she had any.

Why are people soooo rude and think that because they're the customer that they are in the right?

I'd love to hear any horror stories you guys have had serving customers.

Is this "stay away from althom" day?

this old lady threw a racial remark at me once when i was a bag boy at the local albertsons so i let her bread get crushed by the can fruit..i got fired..

First off, I'd get a co-worker as a witness. Any interaction, such as this, that occurs should be with another uninvolved person present. It keeps the interaction professional. I'd try to get the person on the phone focused on what clearly the c/o is...."I need you to tell me what it is you want...tell me how I can help you...what is going to solve the problem?? ($$) I can't help you unless you calm down." You're lucky it's a phone call.Try dealng with this person when they're "in your face", not on a phone. Ranting gets nowhere in all circumstances. I always get another employee as a witness and document the ordeal later. Get management if available to interact. Punt it up, that's what they're there for. I've called security in extreme circumstances. My employer has a panic button for security. Gives you an idea of my employment environment.

althom, i feel your pain. If i could get a job without dealing with the public, i'd go for it in a hot second....
