Family Tree.. I am currently trying to trace my family tree and I am doing it with www.genesreunited.com
Apart from my immediate family I am finding it really hrad and have come against a brick wall. My Dads father had brothers and sisters, I just found that out yesterday, even my Mum didnt know, cos he died when my Dad was just 13. My Dad seems reluctant to talk about his side of the family, or it is just unknown to him also. Its sad, cos I feel I have been denied a whole family.. (denied being a strong word to use I know) there could be hundreds of relatives out there, I dont know about. My Mums father is Polish and all my relatives on that side are in Poland and with my Grandad being 91, I am finding grasping any information very difficult. Have any of you traced a family tree, have you had any sucesses, or did you just give up? I am really interested in finding out about my relatives and ancestors, it will be valuable information I can pass onto future generations and never lost in time..

My parents are in their seventies, so most of the older generations are dead. She's been doing it for about twenty years, but there were really no surprises. She's one of those family oriented people who keeps in touch with every living family member.

Moderator | I've done some family tree stuff. And it's not easy. You have to be a detective doing a lot of research, and there will be brick walls.
1st you start by talking to all current living family members and work your way back into time. Write down everything, stories of how life was, etc. See if you can gather photos, war medals, birth/death/marriage certificates - those carry a lot of information, such as names, occupations, ages, etc. I have the death certificate of my Taid. A good source is going to the Mormon Family Tree centre, it's a gold mine! and they have a collection of family trees and information, etc. There are a lot of sources out there and unfortunately some information is not free. http://www.familyrecords.gov.uk/frc/ http://www.nationalarchiv...uk/census/ http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ Mormon site http://www.familysearch.o...et_fhc.asp Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! I started to trace my family tree about 6 years ago. Some of it I came up against a brick wall, but part of it I got back to the early 1700s. I don't find the time or patience to do it any more, but I hope to start again one day.

My dad started tracing our family tree last year. He managed to find all the relatives back to the 1700's or so, but then it just cut off. He thinks that our family had to change our name, to what it is now, because of something.
Could be anything really, but the moneys on getting away from the English authorities. The Scot's and the English didn't get along in those days.
