Ice Cream Man Shot, Killed In Lawndale
Witnesses: And The Music Played On

CHICAGO -- Someone shot and killed an ice cream man Saturday night as he drove his truck -- music playing -- through the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side, police said.

As the vehicle came to a rest, the music that usually draws the attention of children and their parents continued to play over the truck's loudspeakers.

Police declined Sunday to identify the victim. They also said no one has been arrested in connection with the killing and that they don't have a motive.


One resident said the man came to the neighborhood every day in his truck and that kids would line up to buy ice cream from him.

Local resident Isabell Williams said he was a nice man. Williams, who heard the truck crash into a car, said she didn't think any children witnessed the shooting.
