Australian Movies? Are there any good ones? I seriously cannot think of any Australian film that i have enjoyed. Australians please guide me. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

A brilliant Australian film that recently came out is called 10 Canoes. I loved it.
Also look for Chopper, My Mother Frank, The Castle and Strictly Ballroom. DEFINATELY check out the last two. Oh, and one from last year called The Magician. [Edited 8/13/06 2:17am]

Lantana was good. Little Fish was good.
Australia makes some good art-house dramas. That's about it.

The Proposition has recently been released on DVD format. It's a gritty Western set in the Australian outback written by Nick Cave. Starring Guy Pearce and Ray Winstone, it's a bloody, poetic and overall excellent film.

To be fair, Australia has made some excellent fucking movies, but as I have said, mostly dramas. It is probably the art-form this country does best.
Picnic At Hanging Rock.

Picnic At Hanging Rock. OMG I TOTALLY forgot about that! See, so did I. This country has a great history of film, considering its relatively small population.

Didn't like that one so much, though it wasn't bad at all. The Tracker was better in my opinion, for a similar film which came out around the same time. Anything with David Gulpilil is great. Oh! And Beneath Clouds was EXCELLENT.

Rabbit Proof Fence is quite "touchy" movie subject because there is a lot of divided opinion about the Stolen Generation still... but I still think everyone should see it and I haven't seen Beneath Clouds yet... will have to check it out one day!

If I recall correctly, the subject matter didn't bother me, I just thought the film-making was a bit flawed. First time writer/director I think. But again, it was still "good". Beneath Clouds is beautiful; I am sure you would like it! . [Edited 8/13/06 3:45am]
