Also everyone uses the neighbors wifi ..
(Everytime I walk up on a computer user that is wireless they tell me they are robbing the connection) How does one stop this? I even had a techie tell me she upgraded their service as they were using a weak connection so infact they were far better off for her theft....

So worth it. But wait for the new gen of wifi routers - they can shift far more data far quicker and further. Much better.

Had a problem a week ago or so with my wireless connection and started a thread about it
Maybe it can be of help (if you're experiencing problems) http://www.prince.org/msg/100/197725

Moderator | I like it....the cable people set it all up for me tho...I have no idea how to set it up myself. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

Depends what you need it for? streaming media? I use Sonos for music and have a stand alone media pc wich sits under the TV. It's great 'cause I log onto prince.org from my couch. Right now you're all on 42 inches [Edited 8/13/06 15:15pm] Wer ist dort? Unterbrechende Kuh. Unterbrech... Muh!!!

They put some code thing on our computers so no one can steal the connection....might be hogwash...but that's what the cable people said. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

Tell me about it..... How soon is it? etc..... Is cable more solid right now? There is A LOT of debate even with the new wifi whether the cost will be worth the supposed speed increase, I would just go with the current models, they work incredibly well Karen. Call your ISP and they may even set you up for free hon.

Is it worth doing? Is it sketchy? Do I just insert a card in the pcs to do so? anybody still reading? Hello? Anyone? Wireless is cool, but get a pro to fit it (Set it up) as it is easier for people to "Steal" off your connection than a cabled connection, also it is less secure (I ran a helpline for WiFi connection internet at a University and I had software that could give me all kinds of info about what a user was up to etc) You can set up the router to only allow your own MAC address to access your connection, but even that has ways round it. I used Linksys (Part of Cisco Systems who are the Microsoft of the Network world) [Edited 8/13/06 15:37pm]

Prince.org being a broke dog dick site as it stands at the moment doesn't really work well on "widescreen" But that's most sites Wer ist dort? Unterbrechende Kuh. Unterbrech... Muh!!!

very very easy.
Just by a router (which also have regular rj-45 jacks in them too) and a couple of PCI Nic cards. They have really really cool USB ones that look like little key chains now (see Linksys.com). You can configure your router to accept only the mac addresses of your PCs (this requires you to know the mac address of your PC, which you can do by going into DOS and typing the command IP config /all ). I currenlty don't have a need for wireless, but when I buy my mac book (I'm waiting for them to put core 2 duo chips in them ), I'm going to go wireless for my laptop.
