Took my family kayakng Caldesi Island today. It didn't last too long. We forgot to pack drinks in the cooler , and nobody brought sunscreen.

Also, the current was very strong today, so the kids were not able to swim on Caldesi itself, although we went behind Bird Island and they were able to swim without a current there for a bit.

I rode the current with the kids (becuase it was an inward rolling current which pushed us into the bay and meandered into a safe cove where we could just walk back on to the beach and ride it again--it was kind of like tubing on a river. Everyone was doing it. Lots of fun, though the kids have to be supervised.

Caladesi was voted one of the top 10 beaches in the world this year by Mr. Beach (whoever the hell that is).

While out there I saw some people Kiteboarding. (I've decided already that this will be my new hobby in addition to kayaking.

It was taken by my sister from a bit of a distance. Unfortunately we didn't take too many pictures on the trip. Plus I didn't feel like being in front of the camera today.

If you can't swin, get a sit-on-top kayak. That way if you fall off, it is very easy to climb back in. That's the primary reason why mine is a sit-on-top though i'm an excellent swimmer--I didn't want to fight with the boat trying to get back on it.

A sit on top is pretty much just a really fancy surfboard.
