What does that mean exactly?

Everytime someone shows a pic of someone, especially over forty that doesn't look like a grandmother, you hear, "Oh, she looks good for her age."


So what is a forty year old woman SUPPOSE to look like nowadays. SO, what is Sheila E suppose to look like, Janet Jackson, Apollonia and the rest of the 40 somethings.

All these women look like they are suppose to at 40 (ok Janet's bod is an exception) or else you guys have some elderly looking folks in your family. My mom was almost 60 and had ppl thinking she was almost 40. Are suppose to look all jacked up?

I went to my high school reunion and I thought there were ppl who looked old and jacked up but were they looking like they suppose to look?

I'm really just curious cuz a sista is almost 40 and I need to know if I'mma look "good for my age" or just plain good.

It's all part of America's obsession with youth culture, specifically towards women. James Bond can be 50 or 60 years old, but god help him if a bond girl ever gets older than 23 or 24.

Difficult to say. At forty some people look ready for the grave while others seem like they stopped ageing at thirty. Usually when I find it tricky to determine somebody's age, they're actually around 40.

It's impossible to tell people's ages anymore... people seem to either look way older than what you imagine they should look like at a given age... or way younger.

I like a line from Hemingway - about a woman who looked exactly her age, and that's one of the things the man liked best about her.

I get that all the time..

Sometimes I see someone and think they look good for their age in that were I to guess I'd probably think they're younger than they are, but then sometimes you see people who look every one of their years but who still look good. It's possible to be 40, look 40 and still look good.

When I was 23 I asked my adult students how old they thought I was and they decided up on 29 or 30.

I think there's just a lot of busted mf's out there & people are taken aback when someone bothers to take care of themselves vs. smoking themselves gray & wrinkled, eating themselves into obesity, etc. Some people are just so worn & beaten - I see 20 year olds that look like they're 45 already Not that 45 should look busted but lots of women around that age do get stuck in a rut where they start looking like they just don't give a shit, never updating their look, wearing shapeless clothes, etc. When people are like, "Wow!" it's strictly the presentation - the face & body doesn't even have to be all that, but how you package the shit can make a huge difference... I think...
