went and saw "sweeney todd" on broadway the other night. patti lupone is out of the show for a short while, so we rushed to get tickets to see her temp replacement judy kaye, a favorite of ours, who was tons better in the role.

stunning production... it's a shame it will close soon.

seen most of what's on broadway at the moment.

the last thing i saw was an original play at steppenwolf about proust's live-in assistant recording her memoirs. it was exactly what you think it would be like, but it was a nice, quiet, mellow little night of theater.

meanwhile, i just got the 'grey gardens' soundtrack this week and i've been dancing around the apartment with a towel on my head.

Oh, I'd like to see that. But living in Denmark, chances are I won't see it unless it becomes a big hit and some Danish theater producer decides to stage it. neutral

Speaking of producers, the last show I saw was The Producers. biggrin

i loved the staging and the first act script (although i thought they made some fundamentally wrong choices in the way the wrote marius). second act was okay. they kind screwed up in writing louis, and the changes they made to the story.

but the worst was the songs, which didnt fit the peice at all. the audience when i saw it would be getting into it and loving it, and the orchestra would start and people would litterally groan or sigh. woulda worked a lot better had they done it as an opera with a better choice of music writers than elton john/bernie taupin or done it as a stright play.

good cast though. they deserved better.
