Hold Music

I just had to call our IT Dept and, whilst I was on hold, here are the songs they played:

I Hope You Dance - Ronan Keating barf

In My Place - Colplay smile

Unfortunately, I got through before I could post any more gems giggle but what would be your idea of hell, hold music-wise??

True story: I always remember one of my ex-Managers having to go to a meeting, years ago, to decide upon what was classed as 'appropriate' and 'inappropriate' hold music. Some poor old woman had called up the DEATH CLAIMS department to notify them of her husband's death sad and - whilst on hold - they played 'All By Myself'. neutral

You can imagine the reaction it got. confused

OMG Ronan Keating's "I hope you dance" is that a cover of LeeAnn Womack's song? I'm gonna scream if it is that's one of my fave ever songs mad

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder... that how it starts?

boxed

I, er, I can't remember now. whistling

Yes smile I think it's that one. (I've never heard the original). It was more an anti-Ronan thing than an anti-I-Hope-You-Dance thing. giggle

Glad to see they got rid of the classical music, though.

we got a disc changer for hold music at a job i had years ago, and i was charged with choosing the hold music for our company. probably not the best idea to choose me, as my boss soon learned when a client screamed at her over the phone for having to listen to diamanda galas for five minutes. oopsies!

they brought in some lame-o bargain bin classical CDs after that episode. pout

The worst!!! falloff

Especially when they're 'versions' of much-loved songs.

Have you ever been in Clinton Cards and heard the muzak they play? disbelief Basically, they get these session singers to trill over near-identical backing tracks of the latest hits. They're virtually the same as the official versions but with a guy who sounds like Matt Monro. nod

They're HILARIOUS!! lol I can't remember for the life of me what it was but I went in once and they were playing a version of George Michael's 'Freeek' or something. So wrong!

It's worth going in just for that. nod

I can just imagine Anx's Groovy Mix:

~ Sonic Youth

~ Diamanda Galas

~ Xanadu

~ a bit of Courtney

giggle

I actually did the same thing! (Sort of) I used to work in this shop and we were supposed to play these official muzak tapes for copywrite reasons but I always took in some tapes I'd made up myself.

One of my colleagues always insisted on 'Immaculate Collection' but, when I could get away with it, I used to put on this Bryan Ferry tape I'd made. falloff Some customer came in, asked me who it was and I went all "Erm, ah, eeh, I'm not sure..." redface, Even though it was obvious it was mine cos it only bloody played when I was in there. giggle I didn't want to admit it. redface

to my credit, i DID include some appropriate hold music, like k.d. lang and annie lennox's "medusa" album. very adult contemporary, very soho real estate office. i just figured, you know, diamanda is KIND OF "opera", so what the hell?

uh, yeah. no.
