Airbag in your face!

Have you ever had an airbag go off in your face? Was it a thrilling experience? I suspect it might be? Do you think it's a shame you can't design your own rather than the dowdy cream colour they come in? How would you design your airbag?

Share your airbag experiences and love...

No thank the Lord, but had it not been for a faulty airbag that did not pop out, my boyfriend would have died 5 or 6 years ago. sad
In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

perhaps my sister would be alive if airbags had existed back then...

but in answer to jd's question... no i have not had one go off
i don't think it would be thrilling - i think it can leave abrasions on your face from the force of explosion. better than a trip through the windshield though, right??

2 clients of mine had them go off in a taxi ride in china, they both got whiplash, even though the impact was negligible

When we were in our teens, one of my friends drove an old Subaru Justy. She had pillows in the back seat and wife beaters (little ribbed tank tops, for those of you who don't speak White Trash thumbs up! ) in the glove compartment. Airbags and air conditoning. thumbs up!

A friend of mine had her airbag go off in a minor accident, and she said it was the worst part. Her hands got smashed into her face, and she was wearing a bunch of rings, so they cut her up. shrug

Teacher

People with children should be aware of this:

The airbag where the kiddie seat is shouldn't just be turned off, it should be removed entirely! There have been accidents when the airbag has been turned off and STILL expanded, injuring or killing the child.

I know you have kiddie seats, right? If you don't you shouldn't be a parent.

Yes, in my 1999 Mustang that I bought new. I drove into a huge hole by accident and it set them off. It destroyed the dashboard, the airbags rip a hole through the dash, it's not some cover that snaps open or something like that. The whole car was filled with this white powdery smoke, and it left a really bad smell in my car for days. It's also very expensive to get all of that replaced and repaired.

my cousins were in a bad accident where the airbag went off. it was a stupid situation in the first place, they were in a two-seater car with their grandma only going a few blocks so the youngest granddaughter sat on the older granddaughters lap. (they were both in their early teens at the time) some drunk ran a red light and plowed into them going god knows how fast. they all ended up in the ER, the girls in serious condition. it was touch-and-go for the older one for a bit. and the airbag smashed her sister into her face, smashing her glasses into her eyes. they were worried she might have been blinded by it. fortunately they all recovered with no lasting injuries... but a hard lesson learned on proper seating and safety belts.
