When my mum was in her 40s I was in my teenz and a teacher of mine saw us shopping together in a department store n thought she was just an older sister! Also my aunty who got married in her mid 40s was thought to have looked in her 20s in her photos at the time. I could understand what they meant- their skin is still good and the only giveaway to their ages i suppose is their clothing style and their wayz as such. They come from that school of thought of 'oh im this age, i can't be doin that' type thing. But it's more psychological than age-related.

These dayz i think age is just a blur!! You make of yourself what you are, and you are what you are and just an older version of what you once were, yeah? In as far as aesthetics, i suppose there is a certain physical demeanour that goes along with certain age groupz. Like for example, i may imagine myself at 40 to be extra extra poised, always dressed corporately with a certain kind of signature hairstyle and makeup. Not that i don't think i already have some of that (in a mid twenties kinda way ofcourse)...but that'z my idea and my ideal and i take that as qualities i do admire about women i have observed at that age...aesthetically. I love it when a woman has an established style about her...it'z all about a little self pride.

I think 'looks good for her age' is all about having bright eyes and appearing well looked after i guess.

I don't think it's about what people at 40 are supposed to look like, but rather what most people at 40 do look like.

I think "looks good for her age" means that you haven't smoked and drunk yourself into deep wrinkles and tooth loss. You still bother to wear a bra or an undershirt if you're small chested and you brush your teeth and wash your face etc.

When you look good for you age, you're still alive and put some thought into your outward appearance.

either that or you look radically younger than you're "suppose to".

well....I think most ppl look good nowadays at 40. I rarely see the old looking 40 year old, all gray and stank.

They say the 40 is the new 30....or is it 30 is the new 40....lol

you get what I'm sayin'....i hope.

Difficult to say. At forty some people look ready for the grave while others seem like they stopped ageing at thirty. Usually when I find it tricky to determine somebody's age, they're actually around 40.

I guess when I look at Tina Turner, I'm like...DAMNNNNN, she looks good for 65....but the youngn's....I think they look "normal"

exactly....! i'm should only HOPE i look as fine as a near 50 year old like sheila e. looks!as far as i'm concered 'why shouldn't she look that way'? makes me wanna drink some water and keep excercising!

i don't know, girl...i guess if a person doesn't look like a cathy griffin or melanie banderas past 35, then it's supposed to be an exception or something...and apparently for women of all colors; for example, now that she's lost weight, suddenly evrybody's applauding kirstie alley for being pretty at 55. sophia loren is practically 3 days older than biblical eve and people practically pass out when she walks into a room, when in all sincerity i have friends in italy whose 65+ year old moms are so STUNNING they can still rock a two-piece swimsuit, will put la Loren to SHAME...i suppose it must be that "after 45 women should be put out to pasture" kind of mentality that makes us think older is not as sexy or attractive...neutral

The only one who still kicks ass is Iman. The rest?

The best 40+ year old woman I've seen is Monica Bellucci. She is amazing.
