English Premier League Champs will be...

Chelsea once again of course that is why we are champs, with the addition of Michael Ballack we will be unstoppable. Go Chelsea. I may be an american football coach but I love my English Premier League

Fauxie

Did anyone see the Times piece on the greatest English football clubs of all time? They drew up an all time top flight table from 1888 based on games played, wins, draws, losses, goals for and against, goal difference, points, win draw and loss percentage and finally points per game. I'm sure I could copy and paste it from somewhere but for now here's just a list of the top 20 with their win percentages.

1. Liverpool (45.95%)
2. Man Utd (45.70%)
3. Arsenal (44.25%)
4. Leeds Utd (41.01%)
5. Aston Villa (41.46%)
6. Everton (40.68%)
7. Tottenham (39.97%)
8. Newcastle Utd (39.69%)
9. Wolves (39.72%)
10. Burnley (39.56%)
11. Sunderland (39.35%)
12. Preston NE (38.94%)
13. Huddersfield Town (38.08%)
14. Chelsea (37.50%)
15. Sheffield Wednesday (37.96%)
16. Blackburn Rovers (37.88%)
17. Manchester City (37.24%)
18. Ipswich Town (37.08%)
19. Derby County (37.28%)
20. Nottingham Forest (36.73%)

18 league titles and 5 European Cups, plus the stats which showed Liverpool came out on top, should leave nobody in doubt who the greatest English team of all time are.

smile

For Predom, Watford came in at number 37, with a 34.38 win percentage. My beloved Brighton are down in 52nd, barely above relatively unknown Darwen and also Glossop.

They'd have to keep getting more than 90 points a season for 23 years to overhaul Liverpool's points per game. Anybody can win for a few seasons. neutral

Liverpool, Man U and Arsenal are by far the top English teams of all time.

Do you know how many years it will take to make up that 8 or so percent? Almost impossible unless the top rankers commit Italian style relegation suicide lol

I think he figured they'd be at the top if they won another couple of Premiership titles. lol

The table doesn't even consider European titles either.

Even that would take years, and you'd still only be the second greatest team ever in just your city. lol

Interestingly, you'd think perhaps a Chelsea fan might point to flair or goalscoring as one plus of Chelsea over other teams that should be considered, but not one Chelsea team is in the top 10 highest scoring teams. The 2006 Chelsea team makes it into the defensive category at number 6, so that might suggest the blues don't exactly play the most attacking football either.

For the avoidance of doubt here are the stats:

Cup winners Cup

Spurs 1962

Chelsea 1971,1998

Champions League 0-0

UEFA Cup

Spurs 1972, 1984

Chelsea 0

So that is 3 European Titles to Spurs and 2 for Chelscum

So that puts them further down i think you will find! wink
