Detassling? biggrin

oh god, detasseling...i had to do that one summer, and it sucked ass. disbelief

That's as long as I lasted too. My entire family thought there was no way I'd make it through the entire summer (cause of the nasty bugs and having to get up at 4am) but they underestimated my stubborness and desire to prove them wrong. I had perfect attendance!

My arms were so cut up from the corn leaves and I would have dreams about walking through the rows pulling tassles. But for a 13 year old, it seemed like a lot of money.

The next summer I got certified to be a lifeguard and stuck with that for the next 8 years. It was much better. biggrin

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

some detassling, but mostly planting, taking notes, counting, harvesting, pollinating.... research plots. 15 years of it.

Well, Vaya con Diablo I guess. Sorry if I seem a little unsympathetic, but having spent the last few weeks in 106+ weather will do that.

hope you grew a pair.

nod I agree...we northerners aren't used to this type of weather...plus there are five giant inland seas around us that make things swamp-like all summer long.

For Detroit...

...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING...

A VERY HOT AND HUMID AIR MASS WILL REMAIN OVER THE AREA TODAY WITH ANOTHER ROUND OF RECORD OR NEAR RECORD TEMPERATURES. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S WILL COMBINE WITH HIGH HUMIDITY TO PRODUCE HEAT INDEX VALUES AROUND 105 DEGREES.

THE HOT TEMPERATURES TODAY WILL BE FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER ROUND OF WARM AND MUGGY CONDITIONS TONIGHT. LOW TEMPERATURES IN THE MID TO UPPER 70S WILL PROVIDE ONLY SLIGHT RELIEF UNTIL A COLD FRONT MOVES THROUGH THE AREA WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY.

CHILDREN...THE ELDERLY...AND PEOPLE WITH CHRONIC AILMENTS ARE USUALLY THE FIRST TO SUFFER FROM THE HEAT. HEAT EXHAUSTION... CRAMPS...OR IN EXTREME CASES HEAT STROKE...CAN RESULT FROM PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO THESE CONDITIONS. FRIENDS...RELATIVES...OR NEIGHBORS SHOULD CHECK ON PEOPLE WHO MAY BE AT RISK.
