Funnily enough, I am re-teaching myself Italian, well brushing up on all thats forgotten over the years.. so I went to the library and got some CDs and a book, its kinda good lying out in the sun, topping both my tan up and my Italian cool

At school (many years ago) I used to listen to French tapes while I slept and sure enough it does really sink in and work.. I woke up saying Bonjour! and a hell of alot more than that I may add, but French is on my agenda after Italian wink

how did you learn in the first place? did you take a class, or did you teach yourself?

FOr vacabulary building supposedly http://www.rosettastone.com are really good.
The problem with Rosetta stone is it is set for you to learn without the use of translations. He get a picture of 4 images and you have to guess the correct image to the word/phrase being used. They create patterns in the tests that force you to try and find the relationship to words in the actual language that you are trying ot learn.

For Thai, it was very frustrating to me, but when I figured some of it out, it was like being slapped across the face with something big and meaty.

gotdamn! that software like 300 dollars for all three levels!!!

Rosetta Stone is very good. Used it to brush up on my Spanish. Like anything you can "acquire" it without actually shelling out the 300 large if you look hard enough.
"What kind of fuck ending is that?"

sad mad I'm so jealous.

Don't be. I sound like an idiot, whenever I try to say something in Japanese. "McDonald's" -- pronounced in that language -- is very, very challenging... lol Let's just say, my teacher cracks up at my effort t o say it. But, I'll get it.

Does anybody know what exactly the Berlitz Method is ? I know it´s based on what most people call the communicative approach but they are very vague when it comes to detailed answers. All I know is that they charge enormous fees and pay very low salaries.

Are their CDs any good ? Has anyone of you ever used a Berlitz CD or DVD ?

I'm wanting to learn Spanish again. I got a B at GCSE but I wish to become familiar and get a good basic grasp of the language. A colleague of mine copied me some language CDs which are really usefel and I'm looking to join an evening class at the moment.
